Concord Impressario
Anyone have an opinion of this chrono with the Zenith El Primero movement?
I haven't worn it for years. Tried to flip it, but the dealer (good friend) told me I was nuts to part with it. He said, that while Concord basically self-destructed with a series of stupid marketing ploys, this watch will continue to grow in value, especially since Zenith no longer outsources this movement. Anyone know it it's the same movement as the Zenith-based Daytonas? |

Very interesting Matt.
You should check to see if the El Primero inside beats at 36,800. When Rolex used the Zenith movement, it was tuned down to 28,800. |

Good point Lee. I'll see what I can discover. Maybe experiment with a new macro lens to see if I can shoot a close-up too. Now that I think of it, it has to be different in a few respects from the El Primero used in the Cosmo as it as has not only a date feature, but a month and day display too. Edit: Found this on the watch from an old 2005 FS post: The world's first integrated automatic chronograph, in its COSC-Certified version, also used in the $6,000 Zenith Chronomaster. And the world's only chronograph movement beating at 36,000 BPH for 1/10 second accuracy. The 31 jewel movement has a 50-hour power reserve. (Zenith just recently announced it will no longer sell this movement to other high end watch brands so this watch is fast becoming a collector edition!!) Here's a link to one for sale, mine has the SS bracelet though : http://www.chronolux.com/catalog/con...67-p-1160.html PennyDanny posted this pic in the TRF FS section in 2006 |

The base movement may very well be the same as that used in the Daytona. Things like day and date modules are easily added on.
It's a nice clean, legible dial, and the lugs also look interesting. Very classical. |

It was Rolex who removed the feature for use within the 16520.

Thanks for that Paul. Makes sense that all El Primero equipped watches have date displays except for the Daytona, in that 4 o'clock position.

What a fabulous looking watch. Too bad it's a little on the smaller side at 38mm. I like my 40 mm watches. I'm getting older and need to see.

A major lament for all aging (beats the alernative) WISs is that while you may be able to afford nicer watches, you can no longer see them. This watch seemed plenty big when I bought it and I didn't need reading glasses. Those month, day windows are really small and impossible to read now without help. This watch is due for service, so I'm going to do that and either pass it down to my brother or start wearing it a bit more. Take care |
