Question Regarding Date Dial Change.

In December I picked up a new YM with a platinum dial. I had intended to have the date wheel changed to red. I spoke with Rik who was going to make the change using a Rolex red wheel.

Now my YM has a date magnifaction issue, so off it went to the RSC for a change. I figured if I'm going to change the date I might as well be able to see it. Its still there as of this writing.

My question is, since the watch is currently under the Rolex 5 year warranty, would Rik's work (even using a Rolex wheel) still void my warranty?

If not, if the watch needed warranty repair, would Rolex remove the red wheel?

Thanks

There are reports of varying degrees of leniency toward such mods at the different RSC's but generally speaking, the answer to both questions is "yes". Furthermore, I wouldn't want to name the watchmaker who did the modification for fear of them being reprimanded.

Hi Rich,

I would think yes it would void the warranty because someone other than Rolex themselves opened the caseback. Actually when I recently called Rolex about a warranty question they referenced specifically " as long as the card is dated, stamped by the dealer, and the caseback had not been opened" they would warranty the watch.

I thought so. Guess I'll just leave it as is until the warranty period is up and then have an independent watchmaker perform a service and make the change.

Thanks guys

Is there something in the warranty that states that you're not allowed to open your own watch? Seems like a car manufacturer saying "we give you a warranty, as long as you don't pop the hood."

Show is the magnification when you get it back. Just curious

It simply states in the new Full Five-Year Warranty booklet: "This warranty is void if there is any intervention by a third party, or if the watch is modified by the addition or substitution of parts or accessories not supplied by Rolex".

Reads to me that if Rolex doesn't do it tis not kosher.
