It's actually pretty easier. Just have to remove the stem from the crown and put it on the new crown. You'll need a pin vise. Of course getting the crown and stem out of the watch means removing the case back. On second thought, take it in to any reputable watchmaker to do. Shouldn't take but 15 minutes.

Thanks kilyung!

If you were to ding a Rolex that's the best place to do it. Easy for a watchmaker [w/ Rolex parts account] to replace.

I have an Explorer II with a dinged crown too.

It's been that way for 5 years and if you had not mentioned it here I would have forgotten all about it... again.

It's not like anybody would notice..

Tools- you're right, no biggie. But, you would think the crown could take a hit- is it made out of the same metal? And to other posters, kinda weird as you mentioned, as if it were grinded...

The new crowns are mono-block and made of the same metal as the case; it took a good smack to deface it like the picture, or perhaps a sliding scrape on a rough surface. Mine is the older pressure formed around a stud crown and easier to dent.

They just unscrew from the stem and so it's a pretty easy fix, although as mentioned, you have to pull the whole stem to do the job.

Probably need to have its water resistance confirmed after replacement, too.

Have you unwound the crown since its injury? Are the threads still true?

Dings will happen; if were you will just leave it as is for the time being. If you send the watch for service then get it replaced f it really bothers you so much!

I personally couldn't live with it.....and little scratches & imperfections don't bother me really.
I'd send it in to Rolex Service immediately.

Is it dinged or worn down?

Wouldn't bother me. I'd wait until it needs service before I had it replaced
