48 hour power reserve, alternating between two watches
Not intending for this to sound like an eighth grade math problem but please bear with as there is a question...
I alternate essentially every other day between my Sub and DJ. The watch goes on in the morning at approx. 7:00 and normally stays until bedtime, usually 11 pm or so. This equates (for each watch) to about 16 hours on the wrist, and 32 off, in a 48 hour period. Before putting on the watch I'm wearing that day I give it 40 winds as some posts here have indicated for the watch to run optimally it should start fully "powered" and the wrist time then keeps the power reserve "topped off". Others however have said that if the watch is running just put it on and go, no need to wind... Any thoughts on which of these practices are "correct" would be appreciated, thanks! |

Hmm. I have a similar problem. Used a watch winder for a short time but stopped doing that as I figured its just wearing out the watch needlessly between me actually wearing it.
I would have thought with your rotation cycle as you state above, 40 winds each time you swap to the other is probably too much wear and tear? I'll be interested to hear what other members think. |

There will, for sure, be a lot of replies about how over-engineered a Rolex is and how it is designed to take that, a point I'm not arguing. Just wondering about the possibly "unnecessary" repeated unscrewing and winding is all, thanks! |

Just wearing it will not necessarily keep it "topped off", it is activity that winds it. If you do not put into it the extra 32 hours of wind it will stop during the time it is off your wrist.

It has been going well (both watches stay running and keeping consistent time) winding each time I wear them so will keep doing that. |

I've read from somewhere automatic watches are not designed to be manually hand wind too often (e.g. every day or every second day), as excessive hand wind an auto movement may damage the internal parts. This is in addition to the additional wear and tear on the stem caused by too frequent unscrew and screw of the crown. Not sure if this also applies to the robust rolex movements?

I alternate between several watches. Just wear them and when they stop, wind and reset them.
