Inherited Rolex Ladies' Datejust - Fake or Real?

I know that there are a lot of "I got this watch from my dad/mom/grandparent/suspiciously rich friend" posts, but I really need help with this one.

So I got a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust (Ladies version) from my mom. She said that she got the watch as a gift from my father years ago (around 2000 to 2002). She wore it until around 2007, and left this watch in her drawer until now. Unfortunately she lost or threw awaythe box/packaging when 'spring cleaning' the house.

Anyway, on to the watch. So when I got this watch there was still the green hologram sticker on the back with the word "ROLEX" on and on. In some angles I can see the Rolex crown with the model number below it. If I'm mistaken it was 6917*. Didn't remember what the last number was, unfortunately.

I searched for the telltale signs of a fake Rolex, and compared it to my watch.

- Clear caseback: Nope, my watch only has a blank caseback with no engravings or a see through glass to see the movement.
- Ticking or makes slow ticking noises: Nope. My watch sweeps and doesn't make a slow ticking noise but rather a fast one, like a rapid heartbeat. Something like this.
- No Micro-etched crystal: Haven't had the chance to use a magnification lens to spot it, but so far I don't see any small Rolex logo on the crystal. Some people say that Rolex began adding it to their watches around 2002 so I'm a bit worried.

@Turbo350z, there are some faint scratches on the clasp where there's the Rolex crown. I guess it's not captured by the camera. Then again, my mother had other watches in her collection (she showed me an Omega constellation watch and you can see so many scratches), so I guess this one wasn't worn that much.

@bayerische, Eh, I don't know. My mom doesn't care if her watches (or bags, or anything, really) are fake so the story might be fabricated. I know that there are a lot of inherited stories in this forum that turns out to be fake but what I'm telling is what my mother told me, and not a fabricated story to cover buying from a dodgy seller in ebay.

Even if you have never seen a Rolex in your life, you must at least know that it is an expensive brand that has a reputation for high quality. Your first image SCREAMS out shooddy workmanship and poor materials. How can you possibly think, even for a nanosecond, that this is a genuine Rolex? For your own education, go to a Rolex AD and ask to look at a real Rolex. Or at the very least visit Rolex.com and compare what you see to the POS you posted.

You guys are so good and I for one am grateful for your sharing of knowledge.
I'm new to Rolex and wouldn't have a clue what to look for if I were to buy from anywhere other than an A.D.

These posts confuse me. Why bother looking at their pictures and all that. The fakes are getting so good, it isn't likely anyone could authenticate a watch with any certainty looking at pictures. The best you could say is "maybe genuine"
Better to take the watch to a watchmaker that is Rolex certified. Makes sense anyway, if authentic it will likely need service. That's what I'd do if I inherited a Rolex. Why would I bother with you guys 😉

Maybe you can never authenticate some watches without inspecting in person.
But there are tons of watches/parts that can definitely be revealed as fake. And a lot of people/newbies including me have been helped here. Not to mention the amount of scam listings removed.At the worst it will save you a trip to the watchmaker.

Exactly. I wasn't sure about the bracelet that came on my 1603 so I posted photos. The consensus that it was a fake got me partial refund that then paid for most a replacement bracelet.

OK, I didn't come up with some BS story hoping to be able to point to the thread on TRF that says my watch is genuine, but it was bloody helpful to me.

Do you really think that most of the people here on this forum can't tell the difference between a counterfeit and the genuine article? I would say that these guys are correct about 99% of the time.
