Jubilee Band advice/help
I got my first rolex this week, this is a wonderful resource and I am looking forward to being an active member.
I do have some questions on this watch, especially on the band(s). I have read the reference section and have tried to asses what I have but I am still confused. I had no idea there were so many variations and variables to be aware of. The watch is a Datejust TT, 16030 serial 87xxxxx. (1985?) I have taken it to my watch repair person (independent) who verified the movement to be correct for the case. He was less clear on the bracelet(s). It had a no-name replacement jubilee bracelet on it, and it came with an older band in a bag that showed a lot of wear and stretch. I am wondering if this is the original band, real, and worth sending in for repair (Michael Young?). I am attaching some photos. Any help is appreciated. The bracelet looks real to me from the couple of photos but not right for a 16030 which should have an all steel bracelet. Your watch should have a steel bezel; can you post a picture of it? If the bracelet matches the watch then I'd say it's worth getting it repaired. MY is an inexpensive approach and gives great results. Welcome and congratulations!!!!

Thank you for the response HogwldFLTR. My jeweler indicated that there were TT 16030 watches, is that not correct? The is a TT, gold bezel and crown. These photos show it with the aftermarket band on it.

Your jeweller is correct a 16030 is steel you have a replaced bezel and crown. As for the band it's a mix and Max. You have an original USA clasp with Swiss folded links it's put together

Thanks crown. So there are no TT 16030's? The jeweler I used to authenticate the watch indicated that there ARE tt versions. A quick google search does show some, are these all altered? (example: https://www.truefacet.com/rolex-date...ens-watch.html )
Well, now I am wondering what to do. I like the watch, it is the setup I was looking for (DJ, tt, black face) but just not the originality I was looking for.(Which is why I trusted the jeweler....:( ) Crowncollection, in your opinion, is the band worth fixing up? Once tightened I will probably need an additional link or two, are they hard to find for this band?? Sorry for all the newbie questions, but we all start somewhere. Thanks for the patience and input. |

Best to locate the links prior to having the band repaired. I'd say yes to them having bezel, crown and ever bracelet swaps. I believe the 16013 and 16233 were the two tone versions. It's not all bad if that is the watch you'd like to wear (steel and gold). I added a fluted bezel to my DJII when I got tired of the plain bezel look. It's up to you how much a stickler for detail you are. As far as how accurate I am; that is more than a fair question since I wasn't interest in Rolex at the time the 16030 was available, new.
You can find links around if you look btw. Also the swiss dial should indicate tritium with a T for that year, I believe; the dial looks to have been replaced as well. Here is my 16013. |

Thanks Hogwld, I appreciate the info. The face does show "T Swiss T" at the 6 oclock space. Seems period correct, is there something that makes you think it was changed out?
I guess I am on a hunt for a few swiss folded TT links. I like the watch, got it for a fair deal (even with the questions...) so I will hang on to it for a while and get the band fixed up. I sent a note to MY, hopefully he gets back to me. Any other suggestions are appreciated. Places to look for links, or other photos that may help asses if anything else isn't correct. |
