Just to add to the above, if you are travelling on a US passport, you cannot get the 5 day visa for SZ at the border (Lo Wu), they don't issue them for US passports anymore. So you would need a dual entry or multiple entry before travelling.

Regarding getting stopped by immigration, there is a risk but it is pretty low, especially if you're gweilo/white (sorry, but it's true) and just travelling with hand luggage. If you do get stopped though, you are liable for duty. You could always post the packaging back home from HK and travel through wearing the watch, but it's probably a bit of a hassle if you're only here for the day.
