Tudor Ranger in house movement?

Any information on Tudor replacing the ETA in the Ranger? Was going to buy one but now I'm considering waiting to see if it gets the new movement. The 70 hour reserve and official cert is nice but so is the ease of service with the ETA..thoughts

I'm with you. I was thinking of buying a Ranger, or an Explorer I. If the Ranger had an in-house movement, that might sway me toward Tudor (not to denigrate the ETA movements, which are certainly good). It seems that Tudor will move all of its line toward in-house movements, since Swatch wants to preserve ETA movements for its own brands. No one knows, but I would prefer the ETA if going in-house means the thicker case and modernized dial that the BB just got. My Ranger runs about one sec per day fast, which is as good as can be expected from in-house anyway.

Yeah I wouldn't want that "bubble" case back I've been reading about on the new BBs....curious to see how this works out for Tudor

Interesting question about how much a in-house movement actually matters. I recall a good discussion of it here: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/point-co...ement-watches/

I suppose if the "in-house" movement is inferior to lower cost alternatives, the there's nothing very exciting about it. But if a watch manufacturer can make distinctive and innovative movements that are superior in some important respects (like accuracy or shock absorption), the that would be something to celebrate.

Tudor's in house products have gotten good reviews so far. I'm hopeful that (Rolex) Tudor will do great things, without reliance on the Swatch Group.

I love the look of the current Ranger....hopefully if they add the new movement they won't give it a face lift....blue lume like the new explorer won't be bad lol

Honestly for a watch with no date, i don't really care for in house movement. For a daily with date, the new Tudor in house makes perfect sense especially with the 70 hr power reserve

I fear they would blow the back out of it like the BB. I just cannot understand why they felt the need to do that on the BB though i am sure there was a reason. And I will still buy a bronze. When I tried on the NF with the in house it felt very nice.

If I were looking for a daily and really appreciated a great value I would pick up the new BB36 on leather. Even on the bracelet it is a great deal. Or the Ranger is a great option as well.

I've had my ranger now for a few months and my only gripe is the power reserve. If the ranger came out with the new movement with the 70 hour power reserve I'd swap in a heartbeat.

It relates to the way I wear my watches. I typically wear my watches once every few days so by the time I put it back on, it always needs a wind and time set. Not a huge issue by any means but I'd definitely prefer a higher power reserve.

Well, I hope you get some more opinions from other members. Maybe the opinion from Adam above should be decisive. I've benefited from having read many of his posts on other threads and, if I recall correctly, he owns a Ranger and is very happy with it... I'm also thinking of purchasing one. It's a beautiful, masculine, (yet) elegant watch with a rugged and simple design, much like the Explorer I, but at half the price.

I have to believe all Tudors will eventually get an in-house movement. If you like the current iteration, go for it. But expect there to be a new model within 2 years going into it. Shouldn't be an issue, unless you think you may flip it in the future.

Domed crystal, hand painted dial, great legibility, big crown, awesome case, flat back, nice lume, versatility and the ETA runs at +2 sec a day. Tough to beat IMO.

I got my Ranger at Christmas, was keen to get one with the ETA movement. Third party movements are part of Tudors history, 390, 2428 ect. Plus at least for the moment parts are easily available and can be serviced almost anywhere.

I got mine on the bracelet, and to be honest it still taking up most wrist time!

Thanks for all your thoughts thus far...Bdex75, I was considering getting a new BB but I already have two nice divers and wanted more of a filed watch field...besides a Hamilton which I feel are great watches and very cost effective but everyone has one...and I wanted something with a screw down crown with 150meter water resistance...from all my searching it came down to the Sinn 556A and the Ranger....id love a new BB but with a 3 month old at home my budget at the moment and the into the near future will be limited to one watch lol so I figured I'd get something different.

Thanks for all the input thus far! I was considering getting the new BB but I already have two nice divers and wanted more of a field/sports watch...I looked into Hamilton khaki , Sinn556A and the Ranger. Hamilton...great watch for price but no screw down crown and 100meter water and everyone has one..I like the vintage look of the ranger over the Sinn. With a new born at home my budget is limited to one watch for the foreseeable near future lol so I wanted something different....and it will give me time to read reviews about the new in house movement......I might give it a few months and see if Tudor surprises us with an updated ranger....then I could at least see what my options would be and still have the choice to purchase the first gen...I don't know still up in the air and will continue to research and seek everyone's advice.

Your last paragraph is very true and is after all what drew me to the watch
