Just a good reminder to always be alert in certain situations.

Very true. When people ask the "is it safe...?" type questions here they tend to get mocked, but there is a risk wearing a Rolex in some situations, especially all gold. Sometimes common sense and situational awareness aren't enough. This guy was just sitting at work. Now the only question I have is if he couldn't afford to replace a $21,000 USD watch, why wasn't it insured?

i want to be able to enjoy my YG DD while on vacations abroad, but this is so scary. too many of these awful incidents lately, women honey trapping, mugging and violence!
i know its being in the wrong place at the wrong time and its probably <1% of luxury watch wearers that suffer this, but still I'm too scared to do it now!

Truth is, it's not safe to wear an expensive watch today.
I was in Paris recently, on the phone, in front of a restaurant and I noticed a guy on a moped looking very suspicious.
He was definitely up to something no good. Ex military here, I can tell when something is off.
I walked my way back to the restaurant. Told the restaurant manager to look out for that guy. He ended up calling the police.

Not sure what happened but later on the manager told me that several of his clients had been targeted for their watches.

In NY I see less problems - at least in Manhattan. But nothing is safe. Be careful.

Do I dare to say that Europe is a bit more liberal than the US. Misbehaving and thievery is much more common in European countries ( as a per capita basis) when compared to the US. I blame it squarely on the political ideology in those countries.

I'm sorry but that's just not true. Crime within Europe is no different than it is in the US and the political ideology has nothing to do with it.

Crime is crime, wherever it takes place, be it in South London, Manhattan, Paris or Los Angeles.

The biggest difference is that over here in Europe, you're far less likely to get a gun pulled on you. This robbery a case in point. As shocking as this assault was on this individual, thankfully he wasn't shot dead for his watch. There's plenty of places on this planet where he could have been, and the political ideology of some countries testifies to that.

He's very lucky they didn't do worse to him honestly. Could have been shot in the head, broken neck, throat cut...depending how desperate and panicked the attackers were.

I really feel for the guy, but he needs to watch what he says. He goes into to saying how hard his life is currently while bringing up his Aston Martin and his gold ym. He states things are tough and replacing the watch will take time then talk goes into raising funds for the new watch....you cant get sympathy while whining over your luxuries. The actual crime and mental trauma are appalling.

I found that weird as well but the media loves to give their own spin to the article. Who knows what kind of AM it is. A new one for 150k plus pounds or an older one worth 10-15k (which is still expensive to own).

If he goes around shouting things like that he will win no friends. As for asking to raise money from the public to buy him a new Rolex.... what planet is he from ???

I read this story in the paper. The guy works in a small van hiring company frequented by builders etc and is wearing a £16k gold watch. Surely not all situations is it advisable to have such things on display? He also put up no physical resistance if you watch the CCTV.
