Help! 3 X SS's for A Smurf or BLRO
Hi again. Help please as I have a new dilemma. I have in the last month purchased both the EXP 2 Polar and BLNR to join my SubC. 3 beautiful watches!! I am in love with the BLNR and have always loved my Sub (replaced by insurance co in 2014 after 13 year old Sub was stolen). I may however sell the Polar as not sure it will get any wrist time now (but that's a different story). That all said, I am now in a position to sell all 3 and instead have 1 grail watch of either WG Sub Smurf or WG BLRO! Both are Grail watches for me and I'd love the extra grunt/weight these hold and the fact they are gold is a big plus to me. I will likely enjoy the BLNR for the summer and decide later in the year but I'm already itching and tempted. Any thoughts? Would you sell 2 or 3 SS watches for one PM? If so would you choose a Smurf or a BLRO?? All thoughts and insights/comments (and of course photos) welcomed. I asked wifey and she said 'do what you want, just buy me shoes and I'm happy' so kinda no help but you Gotta love that response! :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd not do it but that's just me. You said you just bought them, and I think you had a good reason to do so because it's a wonderful trio right there.

Rather than trading, I bought the Smurf outright and then ended up selling off a few SS because they weren't getting any wrist time. I would make that trade in a heartbeat because I prefer simplicity. The 116619LB is so special it just rendered many of my others a little underwhelming by comparison. (I did keep my Hulk LV...love that one too...you can never have too many Subs)

Trade them, get a BLRO, especially if 2 of your watches aren't getting wrist time. Pick up another sub later if you want it.
Btw you have a great trio. |

A few months back, I went through almost the same scenario... After much back and forth I ended up keeping my two SS and not purchasing the WG. I personally enjoy the versatility of multiple choices, but that is just me. However, I spent much time at the AD trying on both the WG sub and gmt and the SUB is the direction I would have gone. Just MO

IMHO Keep the BLRN. I think you just got it? Flip the other two and add cash.
If cash flow is a problem, look for 116619 used. That's how I got mine. Just 6 months young. Just something to think about. Good Luck and keep us posted mate

I say go for it. Whenever you are wearing one watch two are just collecting dust. If you truly have grails with the WG options get it and enjoy it now then reacquire the SS watches down the road. They aren't grails so they can wait!
Between the two I like the 116619 due to simplicity and the glidelock. Can't go wrong either way. |

On the one hand, you only just got what you have.....
On the other hand, my SS pieces haven't been out since this arrived...

I would absolutely not! 3 for 1 trades are saddled with regret (for me). But if you're the kind of person who can flip those beauties and never look back - go for it!

I sold my Explorer as it wan't getting the wrist time once I bought the BLNR. I then flipped my BLNR to help fund my Smurf. I would not have sold all my SS watches to do so though. I still wear my hulk a fair chunk of the time.

I'd trade two, get your grail..... Keep one SS just to have something different and be your "knock around " watch.

I would keep the sub and trade the BLNR and the Polar for the BLRO. Seems like the polar is not going to get much wrist time, and if you've got the BLRO, no need for a BLNR.
Or, if you want the WG sub, trade the sub and the polar for the smurf. I would leave myself one SS model with the PM...either way, you would have a killer combo left. |

I recently traded 3 for 1 for a BLRO that will be here in a couple of months so I'm biased. I do recommend keeping a SS piece as a beater but it does not have to be Rolex. Grab a Tudor black bay or something less expensive if you need the funds from all 3 watches.

Amen to that, brother.
I vote for adding to the collection, not consolidating. The WG smurf is stunning (I tried one on once and loved the weight too) but I don't know about having just one watch... First world problems, right?

Yeah no...variety is the spice of life here bro!
You'll miss that BLNR and ExpII when they're gone...and all you'll have is a pretty blue face to look back at you. |

Yes trade 3 for the BLRO. If you can, keep the BLNR as well. If not, add it again later. You can never have too many GMTs.

well just my opinion, having gone through kinda the same thing. I think if you can get a PM model, it would stop the SS wearing pretty much. At least it did for me. I much prefer the look, feel and weight of the PM models.
I think it would be a good move |

I have those same 3 watches and have often thought of the same thing. The big thing that stops me from making this exact move would be I would still have to add cash to the pot to get the sub or the BLRO which I don't want to do especially after moving 3 classics IMO.
I will most likely continue to slowly save for the PM piece. |

Doesn't matter; they're just watches. Wear one or multiples it's all a matter of what makes you feel better.

Not even close to being worth it
There's no gain in owning either the watches you suggest. The movements are the same as in the ss versions. If you really want white gold buy something that has a movement that's exclusive to the wg version.
Look at Patek, Lange or Vacheron if you;re going to spend that money then look at the movements and how they're finished, then decide. Otherwise enjoy three terrific examples of what makes Rolex a great watch company. |
