GMT-IIc Stainless Steel - Scarce?!
Good evening all,
I'm finding my Explorer's lack of a date function is beginning to grate on me, so I've started wandering into a few local ADs here in Paris to take a better look at a GMT-IIc. However, none of them have an SS version at present, even with black bezel. Despite having other models in SS and other GMTs in PM, they say they are having trouble getting SS GMTs at present, and there certainly would be no discount if and when they do come in. Struck me as a bit odd that it would be so hard to locate a "regular" watch (i.e., not exactly a 100 grand limited-production piece) at an AD in a major city. Incidentally, I tried on a black Explorer II while there, and it kinda sang to me a bit....

I hear in Europe many SS styles are hard to find. I am sure there are many out there, but they sell as soon as they come in.
Maybe try a trusted dealer that can ship to you? BNIB should not be a problem for our Trusted Dealers here on TRF |

Yep dont know why your surprised. All the SS popular models all the subs and gmt's have waiting lists and go in and out the same day usually in most ADs here in UK. You wont get a penny off them. It seems easier in the US.

I was there two weeks ago. They had the "regular" black gmt 2c in a few but none had the blue/black one. I went to at least 8 ADs looking for the BLNR and failed hard.

I was in Italy in December and visited three ADs (two in Florence and one in Milan). All had the 116710LN in stock. I paid 7,000 euro from the AD in Florence.
They are out there - good luck with the search! Thanks, dr |

The LNs don't seem to be scarce at all in the U.S., at least where I live. The BLNR is still very scarce though, but can be gotten with some persistence.

Italian ADs usually seem to have most models in stock. Perhaps because they shift so much to re-sellers and the grey market, Rolex rewards them with a steady supply of popular models for meeting sales targets. Just a thought really.

I just picked up my first one on Friday, the 116710LN. I'm pretty excited about it

I've never heard of any modern Rolex being that hard to find....my AD always seems to have them all..including the 116520...I assume the 116500 will be hard to get for a year but I then it'll settle out...
the 116710 seems to be easy enough to find where I'm at in the PNW. |

The LN is very hard to find at an AD in France, and used ones sell for not much less than current list price. After visiting loads of ADs in Paris last September I finally found one with an LN in stock, but I couldn't bring myself to pay list (7,300€ at the time).
One week later I go into an AD in a small town north of Rome....left with an LN and a substantial discount....

Will always be easier to locate one in smaller cities than the large touristy ones like Paris.
I also believe that ADs in Switzerland are supplied first, so it should be even easier there. |

Here's the one I'd get if I were in the market. What are the rules about shipping from the US to France? |

My local AD seems to always have both the LN and BLNR in when I stop by.
Speaking of which, I walked in yesterday and said to him, "I just stopped by to see the new Ceramic SS Daytona." Gave him a good chuckle.

A rule of thumb. Don't buy your Rolex in a capital city.
