I recently purchased a 1993, Rolex Datejust Turn-o-graph, Two Tone, Jubilee. It was purchased from a nice Jewelry Store, pre-owned. The condition is excellent, I don't think it was even worn. I have the receipt of purchase. However, I believe that the Appraisal value is more than I paid (got a nice deal).

So my question is, where can I take the watch to get it Appraised? I have no AD's in my area ... closest is approx. 75 miles away. I do have a great local store, that might help, but not sure, and rather not leave the watch there for an extended period. This is for my insurance company. I've looked at eBay, etc. But honestly don't know it's MSRP. From understanding it seems like an uncommon dial combo.

Any advice is appreciated. Yes, I did a search on the forums first :)

This is the watch:

from personal experience;

the msrp is whatever the replacement cost is in today's dollars for the same or nearest reference number.

the insurance cash value is typically what you paid (legit) but is dependent on your insurance policy fine print.

if you still truly want an appraisal, the only 'appraisal' worth anything on a vintage Rolex is a RSC or AD invoice or service estimate with the ser# and the owners name on it. Send it to RSC, spend the $300-$400 for a lube and WR test/vac seal (25yr old watch) and get all the paperwork for free.

Most AD charge $80-120 for appraisal anyway. Chewy's idea posted above for a few more hundred may be the best bet and you'll get warranty as well. However, you'll be without the watch for a bit.

Most insurance companies will require a Rolex dealer to quote a replacement cost. 1st so they can authenticate the watch, 2nd so they can get a value to replace it from current production MSRP. My Insurance rep saw and took the AD dealers letterhead statement and filed it in case of loss.

Any other letterhead from a non dealer will be suspect. You need to make the trip to a AD and present the watch for inspection.

I was tired of paying through the nose for appraisals. I figured I would try Value My Stuff.

It was simple. I uploaded my images, told them about the watch, what I figured it was worth, paid $15, and received the appraisal within 48 hours. They have discounts.

The appraisal I was sent was actually more than I thought it would be. I sent it into my insurance company ( a major one) and they accepted it.

It could not have been more simple!

Back at the time that watch was made any Datejust dial was available for the watch since the only thing different about it is the Turn-O-Graph bezel. So, it isn't an unusual or rare dial.
