I am not a big Daytona fan (I can't rationalise a watch with functions that I would never use), however aesthetically I much prefer the current/old version. So a big fat zero over RRP for me. Cheers.

I would rather buy the Daytona rose gold on black strap at a huge discount...

PM + Ceramic bezel. I have seen them as low as $18k

None...not a fan of the Daytona. Too small for my 8" wrist. Love the watch in pics, but in person, looks like a ladies watch. Might entertain buying one for the wife. But never at retail, never mind above retail.

I can tell that the majority of members live in the US.

In Asia, the mark-up is real, and substantial.

But from what I can gather, the C-Daytona frenzy is much more severe here in the US than the far east.

Well, with your theory, that suckered seemed to enjoy it for 5 years and then took a hit.

Personally, I'd rather enjoyment for 5 years over money any day.

I don't know how much over I'd be willing to pay. But I'd pay.

Until I have the opportunity, I'm not certain exactly what I would do.

But I know for certain I would do something. I'd pay over list. Sure.

Yolo.

Hmm...interesting thread. I would seem that the overwhelming majority of the responders to this thread would not pay over retail...or even retail itself.

I'm thinking that this will be a fairly small number compared to the people actually in the market for this watch that would be willing to pay over retail.

Agree. Many of the posters don't even like the Daytona (not really sure why they wasted their time responding...). People who do will be far more likely to pay over MSRP.

It's the marginal consumer that determines the price. So all the folks saying <=0 mark-up have no impact at all on pricing in the near future.

MSRP will rise (likely many times over) before the no-mark-up guys begin to become the marginal consumer.

Then ex-post, these no-mark-up guys might end up paying a higher price, inflation adjusted.

Note that the MSRP for the previous gen Daytona was around 7k in mid 2000. If you are offered a 116520 for 8k (adjusting for inflation) today , most would grab and run.

Tried it on...wasn't a fan...not a Rolex expert and couldn't really understand the fuss...looks like a Daytona with different bezel..movements the same I think, case is the same...bit like PP changing a dial colour and everyone going weak at the knees...however maybe I need to pull some strings with my AD just to flip one!

Totally agree.

When the Milgauss GV was released, unscrupulous sellers circulated a rumour that it was a limited edition watch, and some gullible buyers paid more than twice the retail price for the watch.

Today, that rumour has been rubbished and you can buy the GV for a discount.

That's pretty harsh. One of the most important things I have learned when it comes to sales and my clients is to never judge a person on what they do with their money. Everybody's wants and needs as well as their income are completely different from everybody else. So when you spend $10,000 on a watch one of your kids friends parents might think you are a fool because they could buy a used car for that. And when I think it's crazy for somebody to take a $20,000 watch and do gardening with it the person that does that might get sick of that watch just and give it to a homeless person. In other words if a person can afford to overpay for something because that money spent will not hurt them and they are not a fool.
