Aftermarket president bracelet help

Looking at a presi, how can I tell the difference between an original vs aftermarket band if there is an authentic clasp on it? It's an early 80s 18038. Guy also said the bezel was replaced with authentic parts, but I can't tell the difference.

I did a bunch of research on it, and I can't seem to find much except that a fake band will kink, but I don't know what the means.

Thanks in advance.

A better question is how well do you know the seller? If a stranger, walk away and keep shopping... You have one shot at this

Lol I don't. It's a CL transaction, and the guy has agreed to meet at an AD for verification, I trust myself and the staff on the head, as I have owned one before, but the band is my question.

Be careful with CL. So many scams are going on there. For something as big as a DD I would buy from trusted Seller or AD. Good luck with whatever you choose though

I'd go on 'feel'; you should be able to detect the silky smooth movement and edge finishing of the real deal against any non-OEM. Also look into the hard-to-reach areas with a loupe to see if the fine finish stops or degrades.

For additional piece of mind, if you're at an AD can you compare against a new one but give yourself a margin for aging?

Most aftermarket bracelets will test out at 14k, that is usually a very easy way around that. But if I was even questioning it I would walk away or run away.

I owned a 18238. I did months of research on the watch. The information is out there. Keep searching and reading. There's a wealth of information on this forum. Just takes time to read and educate yourself. I would say also if its a full set with original box and paperwork that hedges your bet that everything is real for sure.

That's a terrible picture you posted.

Show pics of inside bracelet and link screws.

You should never rely on an AD to verify a watch for you. I've only met one or two salespeople that know any respectable amount about their current offerings, let alone a 30-year-old watch off the street. You can't rely on a salesperson to tell you about a craigslist watch.

My local "Rolex specialist" told me "the green Sub is only good for St. Patrick's Day."
