Thanks Jim.

I assume that switching to sapphire on a 1680 would diminish it "vintage" value.

I don't believe sapphire will fit the earlier reference watches. The bezel is larger on the sapphire models so I'm inclined to think it is not possible.

That said, I never tried either.

In my opinion the top hat "makes" the 1680. In your price range the 16800 will be the easiest to acquire. Best of luck!

I keep going back and forth between the 16800 & 1680. I think I have came to the conclusion that this venture started with me wanting a vintage Sub, and the 16800 is just not cutting the Vintage bug due to the sapphire. Now that being said 1680 or 5513 hahaha!!

I'm learning a lot on this forum, superdome for a 1680? I never knew such a thing was possible. That being said, I'm very happy to own my 1680 the way it is.

I regret selling my 16800 with nice latte patina... 1680 is pretty vintage looking with the top hat crystal. My vote is a 16800 since they really are getting more difficult to find in good condition.

I know your dilemma and eventually ended up owning all 3 at the same time. As I owned them I realized that I gravitated towards the 16800 more then the others. While I loved the 1680 I really dislike the non-quick set date as I wore them In Rotation. Eventually I decided to keep the 16800 due the the ability to adapt it and modernize it.

Here is mine. I have 4 different bezels with original inserts depending on tastes and put my original dial and hands in the safe and replaced them with service hands and a relumed matte dial. The final add was upgrading the bracelet to the 93250 (as it can take it) and an ar'd cyclops crystal.

I like to wear my vintage watches and this modernized vintage is the best of both worlds for my use.

No joke. I inherited it as I said. What's wrong? Please let me know. I do not proclaim to really know what I have or do not. The vintage thing is new to me.
Thanks. Not trying to scam anyone. PM me, if you would. Not trying to hijack this thread.

Go for it mate, post up as many pic's as you can inside and out, bracelet etc, I would be more than happy for you to prove me wrong..

Oh by the way this forum has a classifieds section, try adding it over there with your "swap" offer!

I second the earlier comment about the early serial range 16800 - I have a 6.3mil serial with the almost tropical looking dial and can see this being the "next" hot sub...

Same watch - takes on different looks depending on the lighting. Forever keeper for me.

I'd go for a 5513 if you can do without the date. Nice symmetry without the date. After that, I'd go for the 16800 with a matte dial. Best of both worlds: Matte dial with a sapphire crystal.

1680

Recently got it. Fascinating watch. The 1680 is a classic. I definitely recommend.

16800 with jubilee bracelet. It changes the sub look and I find this combo works well.
