If it is your only watch, then you are better not to have polished centre links in my opinion, because the frustration of scratches over time will be annoying, that said, having a date is also beneficial I think if your only watch. So I would look for a compromise between the two.

Explorer I for sure! Its a classic design and one of the most versatile models if its your one and only Rolex.. something you can wear from now until you retire. In my opinion, the DJ is not going to be as versatile.
