Good for him. And great suggestion from his sergeant. Great watch, this is a need to see video for all WIS here. Happy he got a honest answer and no-one took him for a ride. Thanks for your service protecting my country, sir. Congrats...

Future value depends a lot on the economy. But in good economic times I see its value rising.

Beautiful video.

If it were mine, I couldn't part with it at any price.

Not really the same dollars now as those used back then to buy that watch, and in 50 years we'll likely be operating on a whole new monetary system.

This reminds me of my high school Russian history teacher. She had a Rolex that started my addiction. She had a crazy expensive Rolex on a teachers salary. She said "my husband bought it for me while he was in the military in Europe, it's worth more than I get paid in a year now, but I would not sell it for anything! It's representative of our never ending love."

Yes, that humble gentleman, so down-to earth, served our country.
makes me proud to be a Rolex owner, and live here in the US.
His story, is just one more valuable reason, of what makes a Rolex so invaluable.
It's not only the Paul Newmans,or the Rogers or the Tigers that makes the Rolex, to me, its actually "folk" tales, for lack of a better term, no disrespect, that just keeps adding and adding to the Rolex legendary lore, so to speak.

Here's a thread from the Vintage section containing a lot of discussion about this watch, merged with all the other thread starters about this episode.

You gotta love that line at the bottom of the box lid.

Anyone use their boxes to store cigarettes?

Such a cool story. The romance days of Rolex tool watches where a military man could walk into a PX and buy a real tool watch. My my have times changed.
