Stppoed working

1978 Oyster Perpetual DateJust. Stopped working altogether. Any suggestions other than overhaul?

Any recommended service centers in Phila area? Any charging less that $500?

Thanks

There are plenty of reputable independents that would do a basic movement service for under $500...now if they open it up and find parts need replaced that price is going to go up quickly...as Joe stated...it's a Rolex....get it fixed and fix it the right way.

Most likely a mainspring failure. But if it hasn't had a service in past 10 years, it could be another cause.

AWCI lists certified watchmakers. Some will have Rolex parts accounts. That could save you about $100 in labor.

But agree with Larry - if you want it put back to like new then RSC will do that and you get a Rolex warranty.

You need to decide if you send it to an RSC or an Independent. RSC will service the watch their way and you may not like what they do to the watch. Does it have the original dial? Does it need replacing or do you want to keep it original? Original crystal? Do you want it polished? etc. If you send it to an Independent you can keep it all original if that is your goal.

The RSC should do an evaluation of the watch and a proposal on how they are going to service it. Normally this is a take it or leave it thing. Maybe you can get them to not polish it, but if so put that in writing. You can always ask to get the watch back without serving if you don't want what they propose.

Given the age of the watch and the fact it has "stopped completely" the $500 "limit" is probably unrealistic... the watch needs what it needs and the number from an RSC and/or qualified watchmaker using Rolex parts will get bigger than that...

That said, I just had my Sub serviced by Rik D. @ Time Care Inc and am very pleased with the results.

Turnaround time and pricing better in comparison to RSC plus once he opens up the watch will discuss more personally with you the work needed and would suggest you give him a call.
