Rolex helps solve a murder

I was recently watching an episode of Forensic Files on Headline News Channel. In the episode a body was found in the English Channel and the police used the serial number on the watch to determine his identity and also determined his date of death from when the watched stopped running. It was a pretty interesting episode.

Well, there's one reason to wear a Rolex with a date.

I believe it was a Date Just, sold in 1986, that was featured in this crime. I recall reading it somewhere... I guess they tracked the original purchaser, if Im not mistaken.

Yes the tv series "Forensic Files" discusses the whole case. Pretty neat!

Interesting. I did not follow the link but I wonder how helpful and accurate the watch really was in determining time and date of death as that would depend on the reserve left and on the assumption that the wearer had set the watch (I occasionally put mine on the wrist after it has stopped and then set it only when I realized that I had it set it in the first place...).

Anyway, I am sure all this was taken into context with the remaining physical evidence collected.
