I've been to the Cleveland clinic dozens of times through the years and always stay at the intercontinental. As an IHG platinum, I expect to be upgraded whenever possible but it never happens there. Each time, they say the members of the royal family have it reserved.

I can say from my own experience, having seen it myself in NYC, when a member of the Saudi Royal family travel, there are dozens of handlers and cargo trucks filled with baggage, food, and even special chairs. Enough to fill an entire floor at most hotels

It wouldn't surprise me if it were true and they pay for the rooms whether they're occupied or not.

There is a fairly new Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi. Unless the Ohio location does something special, I would think GCC nationals would prefer the AUH location.

I listened to the sister's 911 call. There was no mention of an over threat. She wasn't harried or panicky either. It was a suspicious person report, not a violent crime in progress report.

It seems police are becoming more paramilitary these days. I would prefer a little more Andy Taylor and a little less Barney Fife.
Not completely true. Here in the US yelling "fire" in a crowded theater being the classic example, as would talking about bombs in an airport. These would be behaviors not protected by our 1st amendment.

You can swear allegiance to whomever you choose, but if I heard someone pledge their alliance to ISIS then I would report it, and would not be critical of a similar police response.

Off topic but with regards the intercontinental hotel, one suite will run you a cool $3800/night (not sure if that includes complimentary wifi).

Maybe your upgrades cover that, otherwise you gotta pay to play...

Especially right after ORLANDO.
From what I have read, they acted appropriately. Now, had they seen the man, never received a dispatched call, AND STILL acted the same way, I would have a problem.

it's a fine line between ethnic profiling & letting things slide...either way, someone gets screwed.

The main Cleveland clinic campus is regarded as the #1 cardiovascular hospital in the US and arguably the world. They are top 3 in 8 other specialties. Having other campuses in other states and countries gives them access to top resources and the hospital greater reach to patients but if you want the docs that make those programs great, you fly to Cleveland

Sorry for the off topic side bar

That's one tenth of the plaza, which the royal family books a floor of them. If you don't think they could pay to have them reserved year round, you have no idea how much money the throw around. That's chump change to them.

They book the grand ballroom at the Plaza ", which is close to 6 figures a night so all the major boutiques can come to them and lay out their clothes, bags, and jewelry. The family takes what they want and two guys with bags of cash pay. I know they bought $14M in diamonds from a major jeweler and handed them cash. Those bags of cash make may weather look like a pauper.

I think in this case, the absence of any evidence of an actual threat wouldn't pass the test for provocative action.

FWIW, I'm an eighth generation American. I do have some knowledge of US civil rights.

Not entirely sure how one's ancestors being from this country necesarily correlate with ones knowledge of civics, but I'll just say this unequivocally: If I overhear anyone pledging allegiance to ISIS I'm calling the authorities immediately and would hope you would do the same.

here's hoping that we never find ourselves in that particular situation.

I remember when the supreme court allowed the Nazi's to march through predominantly jewish Skokie Illinois. It was offensive to most, but protected speech nonetheless.

It's OK for you to believe there's a terrorist under every bush. It's not OK to oppress people out of "an abundance of caution". These same fears led to the internment of Japanese Americans in WWII, which has been universally condemned as inherently un-American since.

If I hear someone talking ISIS, I will speak to them myself. I don't need police to ascertain whether this is a threat, or a joke, or some guy venting in public.

Edit: Arabs don't call them ISIS. They are called daesh (outcasts from the muslim community who sow dissent). It's a grave insult to those bast**rds to be called daesh, and the preferred way of mentioning them.
