Ceramic on Wg / Yg Daytona likely?
This is a question that has been discussed a bit recently. People have raised numerous points on both ends. I wanted to make a list analyzing the likelyhood of this change.
Points against likelihood: 1. The main point to consider is that Rolex recently changed the reference from 116528 to 116508 creating entirely new bezel text. Why would they do this if they were planning to go ceramic? Would it not make more sense just to slap some ceramic on there? This is the main thing that I can't make sense of. 2. Is it possible that a standard ceramic bezel would not look good with every dial variation? Perhaps we will see redesigned dials before ceramic? Points for likelihood: 1. It seems that this is the direction that the Daytona , nay, Rolex sports models in general are going. Hard to argure with this fact. 2. Steel and rose gold already have ceramic. Is it just a matter of time? Would you let this discourage you from buying a 116508 in its current non ceramic state? Have a nice day, Josh |

I don't think they will come on the full YG and RG models for a while as they are rather blingy models and a favourite of women's too so the ceramic mitigates that, plus the Sub, GMT etc have this covered. I think it most likely first on the WG as they are also not as great sellers and the ceramic would really boost demand. The blue dial will remain on the metal bezel model I think, but the panda, slate etc should see a ceramic bezel.

It seems like they are heading that way but not very soon on your listed models.

You know, maybe this is the direction Rolex is heading...putting some of the WG/YG models that would look good with the ceramic on strap, kind of like they did with the RG models. |
