Is this serti dial factory or custom-added?

In looking for my Pepsi GMT II, I came across this GMT II root-beer X series with serti dial. I tried it on in person, but wanted a Pepsi. Now, though, I am thinking that this also would add variety to the collection, so it has been on my mind ever since. It's a nice combination of sports/dressy. It's actually a pretty stunning watch, especially seen in person, with an unexpected subdued-color combination, i.e., neutral tans and browns diffusing the gold, diamonds and rubies.

I was searching the Internet to find more info about the watch, especially because of the serti dial, but I can't find much info. It looks like they aren't common, although "rare" would be overstating. Serti are more common on Subs. I think a few GMT IIs also came with serti, so this is likely Rolex original. However, I came across several sites also with serti watches, saying "Comes with custom-added dial". To me "custom-added" means "aftermarket".

So, I was wondering if the experts know about the dial.

The pic is from a seller's website.

Thanks

I've never seen a GMT serti dial combo from the factory .
Only TT Subs with factory serti dials...
That said the dial could be original factory and authentic but
taken from a TT Sub and refinished ...
Need other more experienced members in this area to chime in !!!
I'd do my due diligence before pulling the trigger though ...

Agreed. The picture appears legit.

The sub serti was offered with sapphires and diamonds.
The GMT serti was offered with Rubies and diamonds.

I owned the TT sub/serti with champagne dial. I believe both the GMT and sub versions were available in champagne and slate dials.

Often referred to as a Sultan dial. The key to buying these watches is to ensure it comes with papers. Always been a big fan of these.

Thanks for the good feedback. I did some more research and found other GMTs that were factory-installed with serti dials, so I feel better, knowing Rolex made such watches. It's interesting to note that the ruby dials are for the GMT while the sapphire ones are for the Sub. So one GMT I saw, which had a sapphire serti dial, was described as "custom added", which made sense. But the same seller had a GMT with ruby dial and described it also as "custom added". Either the seller isn't familiar with serti dials or is actually inserting "custom-made" dials on its own.

You could get them with a black insert too, but Sertis didn't come in SS; Pepsi/Coke only came on SS models.

What do you call a black insert? If you mean a black dial with diamonds don't beleive that was ever offered. Picture would help!

Is this serti dial factory or custom-added?

So the Submariner 16613 came with a slate/silver serti dial or the champagne dial with 8 diamonds and 3 sapphires, sapphires were at the 6-9-12 markers. 18K/SS oyster bracelet.

Mine below has factory papers and was mint

Below is my GMT Root Beer Serti with oyster bracelet, all original with papers. Now I've seen these on a jubilee but with black bezels and champagne dials, all 18K gold, no SS at all. No papers. As you can see 3 Rubies on the 6-9-12 8 Diamonds on the rest of hour markers

Maybe someone else can add more

Thanks. I recently came across this 16713 with serti dial:

Which think looks good, but based on your descripton should be aftermarket dial
