A 1002 case back on a 1016
I'm looking to purchase a late 60's 1016 but it has a 1002 case back. Would Rolex do something like that or is that just not the original case back that was changed in the last 40 years? Thanks in advance.

i'm not so sure a 1002 case back will screw onto a 1016 case but either way you need to double-check if the watch is engraved 1016 between the lugs. switched case backs is not an end all problem but it was common practice a few years ago to mount explorer dials in plain cases and sell them at a higher price.

My Air King 5501 has a 1002 caseback, it's not unusual. Not sure it would be a match for the 1016 though, as that is a 36mm case and the 1002 was 34mm.

Thank you for your input. I'll try to post some pics. I asked the seller for pics of the serial number and model numbers.

If it's any consolation, two of my 1018s have 1002 case-backs. Based on what I learned on this forum, I've never considered it an issue.

I've asked for pics of the serial and model number twice with no response. Bad sign. I'm moving on. |

The rotor looks like a 1030 rotor to my untrained eye.

Easy one guys, that's a 19mm bracelet, has to be a 34mm case. It's cobbled together, so avoid!
A 1016 is 36mm and a 1002 wouldn't fit, a 1016 has 20mm lugs, not 19mm. Likely a 34mm case married to a movement and refinished/fake dial. NOT worth ANYTHING near $6500
