Not sure on this watch...

So I am looking at upgrading my current Rolex (Mum thinks I should keep my current one and just get another!) Tried on this one and I'm just not sure...I'm definitely going to get jubilee but I dunno. Also undecided between RG and YG. Which is more durable?

Current:

listen to your mother! whatever you do, never sell your watches! been there, done that, and I regret it every day. And they weren't Rolexes I sold, Rolex is a keeper, whatever the model, whatever the year, and whatever the condition.

I think a TT Date Just is a great watch and an upgrade. Keep the other watch if it will get some wrist time.

You current watch is pretty under the radar for a Rolex, so I'd keep it if you can.

I'm not the biggest fan of roman dials, but the new one would look better (IMHO) with a fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet. Put those on a roman dial and the whole thing really pops and even more so with a two-tone. I've got my all steel 1603 on an Oyster, but if I was going 2T/roman it would have to be a Jubilee.

I love your current watch. I'd keep it and get the two tone as a 2nd watch when ever you can. I think everyone needs an all stainless watch as they're the perfect all around everyday time piece IMO. There's just something so clean to me about a monotone watch bracelet. I wouldn't want to let it go. Listen to mama ;)

As far as yellow and rose gold go, they're probably both equally durable. I'd get the one that you feel looks the best against your skin.

The only reason I was thinking of trading it in is because I'm worried I'll never wear it. Once I got my Rolex my Cartier sat there gathering dust for a couple of years and I ended up selling it. I feel no regrets but I am just not sure on this one. They are both very similar watches as well.

I'm really liking the fluted bezel as well. Ugh, it's a huge decision for me.

You never should get rid of your first Rolex, even if it doesn't get the wrist time you can pass it down.

Vick, listen to your mum. If finances permit, treat yourself to the new one, but keep the old. Might I suggest gifting it to your mum for everything she's done over the years?

Wasn't the Rolex that you're considering parting with a celebration of your PhD? IMO whenever you buy something that commemorates a special life event it belongs with you forever. Keep it for your mum, or daughter someday. You may regret selling, and I would only consider doing so if acquiring the new piece requires such sacrifice.

As to your other question regarding durability, I don't think there's any difference between yellow or Rolex rose gold in that respect, although I've always found rose to be a bit more feminine.

She would definitely be keen to wear it! She's always wanted a Rolex. Would have to add back all the links I took off though. I know, no big deal! And it was a celebration of my PhD. I guess thinking that then maybe I should keep it and put the links back on so she could wear it at least.

Then the decision is an easy one!
Your mum will be thrilled, and you'll get a new Rolex. Now only to decide RG or YG. I think Rose is the better choice, especially with the black dial.

I definitely like the fluted bezel. I'm not sold on the black dial...I really like green/blue/pink.

I would add the TT and then flip the SS one for a sub/GMT.
