Went to my AD last night. I've been contemplating between a sub date, SD, and GMT IIc. I tried them all on multiple times. My thoughts:

The Sub date is really a perfect timepiece in so many ways. Beautiful, incredibly comfortable, and it just looks right. There's a good reason it's been THE definitive men's sport watch for so long.

The GMT IIc is amazing. I hadn't actually worn this one before. The new bezel and the maxi dial are great advancements. It looks very contemporary. It's fairly flashy as well, with the new bezel and the polished center links. A great watch, which looks very of-the-moment. However, I felt it screamed contemporary, and I began to realize a classic look really called to me.

Which brings me to the SD. Compared to the other two, especially the Sub date, it initially feels top heavy. But after wearing it for a few minutes, that feeling passes. You're still aware that it's there, but not in a negative way. It's solid, has a great heft, and sits nicely high on my wrist. I'm a thin guy, with a flat 7" wrist and very long arms, and it didn't look out of place in any way. It's understated, especially without the cyclops, but it definitely has a powerful, yet quiet, presence. So I guess this is what people mean when they say a timepiece sings to you.

I bought the SD. I asked the AD about a possible discount. He thought for about 5 seconds, lowered his voice, and offered me 10% off MSRP. I got the impression that he doesn't sell many SDs.

So excited I barely slept last night. I'll post up some pics when I have the opportunity to take some.

Great choice, and congratulations! You'll be happy you did. It's really good you got a 10% discount on a SS Rolex, as well ... that's a very rare deal. I love it when SS Sub owners look at my watch, and slowly figure out that it's a Rolex without the cyclops ... wear it in good health!

I see that Alan Furman's site isn't offering a discount, their SD is going like the white dial Daytona, MSRP no discount. So it seems that 10% is a fine discount, esp. as the prices of the used Z and M series begins to climb..........enjoy your SD, read my own views on this site at:
