How does the lume on the dial work?

Does anyone have a link or text on how the lume on modern (rolex) watches work.
Radium and Tritium dials I can understand but how does the super luminova actually work.

Thanks in advance

For those that want a simple answer, light comes from electrons of the atoms losing energy. Color and fluorescence (color from ultraviolet excitation) is the immediate release of that energy. This means that when the excitation is gone, so is all emitted light.

Phosphorescence is the non-immediate release of that energy. Instead of the electrons losing all of their energy in an instant, there is a property of some materials that creates and energy bottleneck that delays the energy (light) release.

Interestingly, passing through this state (triplet), is not allowed in classical physics. It should not happen but thanks for quantum physics, the electrons can slowly tunnel down and release their energy over time. Lucky for us so we nice green and blue and yellow and red colors to look at in total darkness.
