Platinum Rolex daytona 116506
Hi,
My first post here. An amazing site it is too. I bought a GMT II stainless/gold a couple of years back which is beautiful but have always liked the Daytona. The opportunity arose to buy one and i've just paid for a platinum 116506 that's due to arrive at my local jewellers in the UK this month. Am very excited but slightly worried how the platinum might look after a year or two even with careful wearing by a clumsy clown like me. Any tips or hints about care and maintenance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg |

On the hardness scale, platinum is harder than gold but softer than steel. Thus, I expect a daily platinum beater to be a better alternative for gold. It may develop more of a patina (wear) than a steel beater under the same conditions.
Also, it would be interesting to find out what Rolex does with platinum. Rolesor (essentially a gold alloy) is quite remarkable. |
