Icon10 16610 came back from a full overhaul.

I noticed there was the typical "whirring" noise indicating a worn axle so it was finally time for a service. I wanted it serviced quick so the rotor or other parts wouldn't be damaged. I had been wearing for 10 years with no service so it was telling me the time had come.

I had seen some other members negative experiences with RSC's so I decided to use my local AD that has an in-house Rolex watchmaker. He is excellent and turn around was only 2.5 weeks from a man thats been doing this work for 3 decades. At first I debated getting my Sub polished but I figured just this once. It had tons of deep scratched and marks from hard use but I must say it looks new.

I finally decided to put on the Preik caseback too. The AD wouldn't do that for me but it was easily done myself. Not sure if I am going to keep it or not but I do like the look of the caliber. Although some say the Rolex movements aren't finished to an attractive level I rather like the circular graining and other polishing. IMO it would only need some heat treated screws to really set it off.

Looks to me gaining about 2 seconds a day. Overall I am extremely pleased and lucky to have such an amazing watchmaker at my disposal. A++

Slow-mo. of the hairspring.

Looks great!
Did you have it pressure tested after changing case backs yourself?

What do you guys think about the cost of overhaul? Is that about what this runs nowadays?

Thanks

Looks very good - did a nice, and conservative job with the polishing too.

Very timely thread. I went into the AD today to lust over a BLNR and convinced myself to wait a little longer but to go ahead and send my 16610 into the Dallas RSC for a service. It's been on my wrist for 8 years so I guess it is about time.

Now I'm watchless for about 6 weeks.

Did the watch look as good as you hoped it would? Close to new condition?

He told me he was very conservative on polishing because he feels most watchmakers go overboard.

I was pleaantly surprised and it does look new. Luckily I clean the band all the time so there is no grit build up to stretch it or wear it out.
