Can Chromalight Lume grey over time?

Does anyone know if the Lume on the more recent models can grey over time?
Some of my markers seem to have grey darker areas to them, more so in the centers.
Does anyone know if keeping Lume in a pitch black place such as a safe has an adverse affect on such?
Random Friday question I know, but the mind has been wondering.
Any info or how this Lume can react over time would be massively appreciated.

I don't think they grey, I have seen a couple of posts with what you mentioned about the difference in the center, and most attributed it to uneven application.

Well Chromalight is only a different colour combination of Luminover and would expect made by the same company. Luminover is made by Nemoto a Japanese luminous paint maker now they moved a part of its factory to Switzerland in 1998 in Joint-ventured with RC-Tritec AG.This was to establish Luminova AG Switzerland for supplying Luminova to all the Swiss watch industry including Rolex and most all of the major brands.Later around 2001/2 the name was changed to super-luminover and many other names for basically the same product under the various brand made up names. But its mostly all basically the same paint with a slightly different colour pigments plus hand and marker surface area. And now we have Chromolight more on the blue spectrum colour now which is a Rolex trademark name. But again this could be a special colour blend of luminous paint by Nemoto for Rolex, I would doubt if Rolex themselves would make lume paint.Luminover was first introduced in 1998 its been called super-luminover and now another made up name Chromalight for basically the same paint but different colours,so seeing its been around for 18 years myself have not heard of any developing any patina like the older Tritium dials. But it may be possible in the next few decades or so it could change but IMHO very very unlikely.

Wow incredible info. Thanks Padi.

Did you just write all that or is it saved and like a copy/paste thing? Lol.

Impressive.

The lume on every post 98 lumed Rolex I've seen still looks like new. It seems the newer stuff just doesn't age. I'd say it possibly ages at a much slower rate but there is no sign of it yet.

I think the darker areas in the centre of the pots are caused by slightly more liquid build up than the outer area of the pots. If the method Rolex uses is not unlike an automated piping bag that dollops cream onto hundreds of Oreo,s at a time, just for a visul here, then i would think the tip of the needle would become clogged and spit out a larger, thicker amount. Any lume or paint that folds over its self will give a dark spot. I have seen markers that have dark patches in their centres on Rolex models before.

Excellent info. Cheers.
I guess I'll have to see how much the darker spots bother me.
If I keep looking the I'll send it in to RSC,
But I don want to "inherit" any potential defects from having things swapped out.

It's paint so I'm guessing eventually it will age or fade, but it will probably take a long time.
