The following companies just filed for Bankruptcy

Hollywood Video
Levitz
Sharper Image
Performance Team Freight
Linens n Things
Circuit City
Bed, Bath and Beyond

If you have gift cards from the above list use them ASAP, they will not be valid for much longer. P.S. Sharper Image is no longer accepting gift cards.

Ouch! Big box retailers really put a hurt on the last three. I don't keep up with this stuff much anymore, but I am surprised not to find Toys r Us on the list. Funny thing is that Wal-Mart is now downsizing their electronic lines.

5 of those companies closely associated with the housing industry. A bit of an eye opener, but no big shock.

Is it official that Circuit City has filed? There has been a lot of talk about it lately but I haven't seen anything stating it as a fact. They started here in Richmond so it is shame to hear this.

The Sharper Image as well? There's website now has puzzling message. "Sorry to keep you in the dark". But for some years now, their offerings are less than 'sharp', I must admit. Not the cool gadgets they used to sell

Makes you wonder how well they were run during the boom times since they are unable to weather the downtimes. I have done business with both BBB and L&T and they have been in a slow decline since 2002, even when times were good in the housing industry. Just thinking?

I go into BB & B once in a while, but honestly - their prices are always 10 - 20% higher than other places (Target, Walmart). I only make a purchase if I happen to have on of their 20% off coupons.

I can't stand any of those places. My guess is that most people felt the same way.

Our mall's Sharper Image store closed a couple of months ago. Two local Levitz stores have been gone for several months.

I'm surprised to see Bed, Bath & Beyond on that list. Despite the funny discussion of the store in "Old School," they did sell some things that I found useful for the home.
