Problems servicing at Bexley with my DJ 1630
Help wanted here guys !! (and TRF ladies - of course !!)
I got my estimate back today from Rolex Bexley for my '77 DJ 1630/3 for servicing and overhall. 3x parts on the watch are - they described as obsolete: Champange Dial Champange Chapter ring Bracelet & Clasp The are offering a replacement Silver dial & Chapter ring - but nothing on the bracelet at all !! They wont even fit a new clasp !! They have said to me - that if I can source genuine Rolex parts elsewhere in the world - and send them into Bexley, they will fit them during the service. Has anyone else had this sort of trouble Also - Do all the Rolex Service Centres source their parts from Rolex Geneva? |

This is NOT normal for Rolex Bexley.
They do have the 30 year rule but usually let that slide if they can and if they have the parts. There are other specialist service centres for vintage Rolex watches in London. The London (St James's Sq) RSC are usually happy to give out their details.

I had trouble with Bexley. Maybe try Duggan's? This won't do Rolex reputation any good with their vintage models.

Tony-GB refers to David Duggan's based in Burlington Arcade, London.
I would contact Chris Cheal or Tylden Reed. Google for details. When I spoke with Rolex UK London the Service Rep told me that they will service watches back to the early 50's, although they reserve the right to charge an extra premium on top for movements that are no longer produced. Although you can not get a like for like replacement dial, you should be able to get a close match from the current ones. The bracelet issue is a surprise! NB-All the posts from members wanting to buy DD's or Daytona's in YG or WG. Spend £15k plus and 25 years down the road Bexley refuses to touch the watch AJF. |

The bracelet was a total no-go, they would not even put a replacement clasp on it. I know the braclet on the 1630 is unique - but they offered no advice on where to get one or anything - they was more concerned with just the head. The bracelet was my problem.... type of thing. |

I've spoken to Tylden Reed (A great guy)
but he does not re-lume any more, so refurbing the original chapter ring is out. Though he did ask me to send him a picture of the dial, he said he knew someone who may do it, so long as he referbs the dial aswell. So - I'm awaiting his reply. |

Rolex London told me that they can rebuild the bracelet if it is a TT version. They send it back to Rolex HQ and resmelt the gold.
Might this be a solution? Can you post a picture of the bracelet? AJF. |

I've only ever had one issue with the degree of service by RSC Bexley, the crown on my Sub was sticky & came back more or less the same, a phone call of complaint to a person in authority took care of that & consequently the Sub was then returned as good as new.
Respectfully, maybe you could speak to somebody senior at RSC to explain your disappointment & the problem to them, hope this helps |

That bracelet has been discountinued over 20-years ago. There might be someone out there that has one NOS, but finding it is the trick. Worst case scenerio is to put a new TT-Quartz bracelet on it and for go the gold middle link.

I wish everything can remain original forever, but that's not always the case. Like I said it was discontinued in the late 80's as my friend had one and couldn't get one from the NY-RSC back then. Your best bet is to put WTB in all the forums, especially VRF. More then likely if one turns up it would probably come from HK as some guys out there have an arsenal of NOS parts. Good-luck on your search.
