When did SS Daytona prices normalize?

For the SS Daytona that were released in the early 2000's, how many years went by before the second-hand prices came back down to normal? I'm trying to gage when the ceramic Daytona will go for around retail on the second-hand market. Thanks!

put your name down for a new one and wait. it answers both your questions in the same timeframe as waiting for prices to adjust with demand in the used market.

I'm going to say at around 12 years or so the 116520 was readily available at MSRP from grey market sellers and AD's. What happen with this watch is Rolex had several price increases over a short few years that brought MSRP up to where grey market dealers were selling it at. These price increases slowed the demand for the watch as it eliminated all the flippers and left just the buyers that wanted to buy to wear. If you put your name on a few lists with AD's you should be able to get one at MSRP within 2-3 years.

actually the last recession killed off the speculators. since then prices have somewhat "normalized".

It's going for RRP at ADs now. Put your name on the list and you'll have it before the second hand price is better than an AD (probably never).

Apart from the Daytona's that don't move much (like the PM models) I doubt it happens quickly. Too much hype around this model.

This is correct. When I started looking at Rolexes in the mid 2000s I think the 116520 retail was 9000 or so with grey market prices around 12-13k. With time the MSRP caught up around 2010 or so. When I bought mine then it was for $11.2k I believe, eventually settling in at the final $12k MSRP with the last price increase.

Remember that past performance is not necessarily an indicator of future behavior.
IMHO - you would want to also review how other recent "hot demand" releases have been doing the past 3 years or so.

These ceramic daytonas seem to be shipping very regularly. I think two years until they sell around msrp (maybe +$1,000), whatever that ends up being.

I've been into watches for about ten years, and in that time the Daytona has been an approximately $10,000 watch. I expect that sort of stability over the next decade, though perhaps centered around $14,000 or so.

Yes the watches are supplied regularly but it's a matter of ADs waiting for their turn and then their customers waiting for their turn.

My understanding is the regional Rolex rep here gets 2-3 watches at a time (not sure how often) for 40 accounts so as you can imagine it leads to a long wait.
