Crown pulled

I see pictures of watches with the crown unscrewed and pulled out. Is there a reason for this? I thought it would b an entrance for dust and debris?

Probably so they can lock the time at 10:10 for the purpose of the photograph.

An unscrewed crown will not let in dust and debris. There are seals around the stem inside the tube, it does not "open-up" the insides of the watch to the atmosphere.
