I had some rashes develop on my wrists when I first got my Daytona and I thought it was the nickel allergy people had grumbled about. Turns out my wrists were just not used to having a watch on AT ALL prior to my purchase and got irritated by the fact that I NEVER removed it except for a few rare occasions. My remedy was to take my watch off at night and wash the watch regularly. In your wife's case, I'd still say test drive and worst case scenario go PM! I think she'd appreciate the gesture.
