A Submariner with an interesting history

From a diver on the treasure ship Nuestra Senora de Atocha and includes a coin from the wreck.

$25K ? I guess it's worth whatever someone will pay.

Interesting history, nonetheless.

I guess if you know something about this recovery operation and know something about the diver, then this might be worth a premium and, well, the coin is supposed to have considerable value.

However, for me, I give neither a hoot nor a holler.

I wouldn't be shocked if the seller ends up taking an offer for A LOT less. Either way, it's an interesting piece and it'll be cool to see if it sells and how long it takes.

Another theory for such an eBay listing is to peg the value for a pending private sale.

I've seen a genuine Rolex 24 Hr winner's Daytona listed there for that purpose. That eBay deal generated pages of "to and fro" twixt members here as it was listed with a ridiculous BIN price. And the typical real or not real arguments.
In the end, the seller accepted the private party's offer when the auction didn't produce a buyer.

Interesting, but not a $25k provenance (to me!)

There were many Casio and other standard pieces of gear used during that salvage. Who will pay over $25 for any of those Casio...? An 8 real piece from the same era, grade 1, will go for some $300. Operations such as the Atocha's are highly dubious, and prohibited by UNESCO unless carried out for academic and scientific ends. In few words, RIP Mel Fisher and

As an ex coin collector I can confirm coin values are completely on the deck, would only be worth its weight in gold.

So that's would leave a very expensive submariner with a questionable providence.

Ummm...an 8 reales from the wreck with average condition is worth thousands more than its weigh (and they are silver, not gold).

The first thing the owner would need to do is prove the Athenticity of any claim which would be a struggle with one small coin.

If it was accompanied by a hoard of other items then that would make a big difference.

COA's don't cut the mustard anymore, to many forgeries.

Just my take on it all. By the Rolex, by a gold coin, but don't buy stories.
