Montblanc M

I noticed at Hodinkee the new Montblanc M. I happen to have a bag full of Montblanc rollerball and felt-tip refills so I figured I'd buy an M in order to have a lightweight pen to carry around. I have several Blancpain that would fit those refills but they are "old" pens by now and I'd rather keep them in storage.

However, when I started researching the M, I discovered that it requires a special, short refill because the design of the pen won't allow for regular refills. And the short refill only comes in blue and black. Also, the magnetic cap seems to fit rather flimsily. One of the comments on the pen was that the idea was for design (looks) to prevail over function. I cancelled the order immediately.

I have to wonder what Montblanc was thinking when they introduced their M line.

I still have no idea and I do not fault you for cancelling the order.

I would likely acquire one at the "right" price just to have it in the collection. Outside of that... no!

Good post!

Good post!
They have a new (?) line, PIX, which looks very much like a lower priced line they had in the late 90s. The PIX is also at an entry level price point. One of those might be an option for using the refills I have and as a beater.

It seems like an interesting pen but a big departure for Montblanc. I would have one as a novelty. Not my favorite but it is interesting.
