Definitely not redundant and both would go great together in a collection. Either would make a great first Rolex. If I could only have one though the BLNR would be my choice.

If I were to start again tomorrow my very first watch would be an Omega Moonwatch. It is simply $ for $ the most legendary watch a starter collector can buy. My second would be a ND sub or a SD. This would be the beginning and the end of my Rolex and Omega collecting before graduating to haute horologie

me too!
I started this odyssey not all that long ago, read an article about the 14060, found one. Understated eloquence! Watches have come and gone around here, but so far, the no date sub has stuck around. And almost half the price of the new ones you're interested in. I like the vintage stuff more. Remember, buy new and if you want out of it, it's hard to get your money back... so you better love it!

I would go for a 5 digit reference personally....the non COSC 14060M is an absolute stunner and the epitome of Rolex. You just simply cannot go wrong. This was my first sports Rolex reference and deep down one of my all time favorites. Just my .02

Another vote for the 14060 two liner over the modern reference. But I totally think if just one watch...I'd go with the blnr.

What would you start a collection with?
Well if you want to go previous models remember that they require some more knowledge about condition.

Start with the ultimate Iconic watch
Both are beautiful, the Sub ND is timeless. Always in fashion.

blnr + daytona is probably the most versatile duo in the entire collection. I would go blnr for my first watch if i was just starting again.

Unless you need the secondary time zone, hard to beat a sub.

Both are perfect as part of a collection or on their own.

They are redundant, but not so much that you couldn't own both. Personally, the 16710 is my GMT of choice, so I wouldn't get the BLNR. How many watches will you own in your collection? They're are many other great watches that you can get for $7-$8K. Do you really need 2 modern rolexes with similar dials and cases? From 5 feet away they look like the same watch, imo.
My recommendation would be a clean 16710 with solid end links and all the bezel options. Otherwise mark me down for the no date sub. Also keep in mind that Rolex will eventually offer another SS GMT, which may drive down the demand and cost of the BLNR. |

All I have to say is that if you go with the Sub (Gorgeous watch) make sure you absolutely live without a date function. I purchased the 114060 as my first watch (I loved the symmetry and cleanliness of the dial and the fact that THE OG Submariner didn't have a date.) and while I loved the look of it, not having a date drove me absolutely nuts. I really didn't think having no date for my only watch would bother me at all, turns out I was wrong. If you no for a fact that won't matter to you then the 114060 is an excellent choice and is a watch that will last you forever.
Knowing what I know now I would have either went with the SubC Date or the BLNR. I have loved the Sub forever but when I tried on the BLNR at my AD it sung to me like no other watch had. I plan to own both eventually but whichever you pick you absolutely can't go wrong (unless like me not having a date on your only watch drives you mad ) Good luck and I can't wait to see what you choose! |

Both are great watches, I have 114060 and I would like to add a GMT to my collection one day. Look around, it is fun to search for a watch anyway and get the one with a better discount. Get the other one later on.

Sub for me as a first, glidelock and diving bezel serve me better than easylink and 2 time zones.

Every collection needs a Sub!
I started with a Sub and then you can add add add. BLNR / Daytona / DJ - the list is endless. Good luck! |

I would start with the 114060. Great watch and a classic. The Glidelock bracelet is the best. Wear it for awhile and see what interests you. The BLNR is nice but I would look at the Polar Explorer II 42 mm. To me a unique watch with the white dial that can be had for significantly less than the BLNR, and for me, is a better fit. With the money you save you could buy a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster and then have all the bases covered.
