I was actually referring to the 36,326 Rolex's for sale just on eBay alone.

I don't think all of them are Rolex.

It is a watch sales forum. Watches are sold there. I see other brands seiko for example just as much if not more than Rolex unless you are in a Rolex sales forum. Many people have flipperitis and are constantly buying and selling watches in search for the "one" and others I really think it is more about the hunt than the actual watch. I tend to buy for keeps but I have sold a couple over the years as sometimes a watch just isn't what you hoped it would be.

"Flipperitis"
That is is the word of the day for sure! I do believe that is the cause for most people, I sure know I had that.

Most start off with a few gf before moving on to a wife, and even then she may not be a keeper

That Rolex watches retain their value so well would be one of the reasons that they may be over-represented in the used market.

That's part of the reason that there are so many flippers.

If you spend $1000 for a watch and you'd be lucky to get half that in resale, you might be reluctant to even bother.

I don't flip watches, so I really can't speak from experience.

Well, chrono24, ebay and TRF are similarly online so they are mainly for the more hardcore watch buyer, the vast majority will only buy sight seen from an AD.

So many ? Compared to the annual sales and the total of watches on the market it's actually quite small numbers.

"Which will hold its value", "what will be worth more down the road", "which will be easier to sell" and so on and so on. Why are there so many pre owned Rolex's for sale? Why aren't they bought and kept! Why can you buy a one year old Rolex and it already had four owners? Forget about just compairing the statistics to other watches, what other "any" item is bought and sold as quickly as a Rolex????
The most classic one is....."I'm looking to buy my first Rolex, which one is the easiest to resell"?
I don't flip. I have 4 Rolexes, the oldest of which I bought at least 15 years ago. I keep everything I have ever bought. I buy because I like the look and the complications.

I've flipped many watches over the years but never a Rolex. I have two now in the collection it I've realized I'm a Rolex guy so these will never go. I need more Rolex's to be honest because there are too many beautiful references to choose from.

Because to most owners, it's a toy or fashion accessory. Once the freshness wore off, we are off to the next thing.

Since Rolex keeps a relatively limited production and infrequent updates to its product line, used Rolex retain their value extremely well, thereby keeping cost of flipping justifiable to most owners.

Very good point. We've all seen this chart: https://www.minus4plus6.com/PriceEvolution.php

But let's walk through the prices from 20 years back. Except for the gold models, compare the 1996 price column to today's pre-owned prices.

You would have enjoyed a Rolex and could actually make money - some have a CAGR above 5%. Now I'm not saying "invest" - but owning for long-term has an upside.

So that (plus the volume being made) contributes to a strong resale presence in the marketplace.
