Longines? Any thoughts?
Been eyeing this Longines and was wondering if anyone on the Rolex forum has any watch outs (no pun intended) against Longines. I'm in love with this watch and to me it looks like a Vacheron Constantin Grande Complication!

I've always really liked this reference but never pulled the trigger. The dial is a tad busy, but I think it offers great value if you keep it for the long run

Yeah, I kinda like the tapisserie dial with all the complications. I have simple watches that are beautiful, but this one really oozes sophistication and maturity. For $3,500, I think it is a great value...unless service or other considerations might prove me wrong...

I've always liked Longines, my dad wore one daily when I was a kid. Don't know if the price you mentioned is MSRP but I'd think the brand can be had at a discount.
A lot going on with that watch. I'd be curious to know if the date hand sweeps or snaps from one day to the next. Same with the day and month discs. Also find it interesting that the subdial for the 2nd time zone uses a 24 hour dial rather than a 12 hour/ Interesting watch. At 42mm it's borderline too big for me though.

I like Longines too. My grandpa had one and still ticks when my dad manually wind it. I love it's movement. Sadly though, Longines lost some ground in high horology when they were acquired by other corporations.Their history is full of patents and I didn't know that
I wanted to buy HydroConquest Model but didn't buy one because it lacked screw in links it rather was incorporated push in links and these cheapen the watch and screw it ,literally speaking The model you asked is very neat choice. I don't think you would be disappointed with that model

overall I like Longines a lot... one of my favorite "lower level" Swatch Group companies. Very classic styling.

Incidentally, all three greys have the MSRP listed at less than on the Longines site. Either they just had a price increase or Longines is selling at over their own MSRP.

I actually have looked alot into this watch and did recently buy it from Jomashop for 2295. i ended up returning it because I purchased to 40mm and thought it was a tad small for my tastes. I am thinking about purchasing the 42mm but havent decided yet.
And just so you know, the link you provided is for the 40mm. 42mm at the same site is 100 more |

I also looked at this watch too but once I put it on my wrist, it just didn't wow me. I can't put a finger on exactly why but I'd just suggest trying it on first if you can (like any watch really).

Nothing against the brand, but I would think that for that price zone it would be better to get a simple time and date watch than one like this, with such complications they need to cut some corners at that price point, a nice watch with such complications IMHO, should be clearly a few thousand dollars more to have quality and other things, here can't imagine how they could make a really quality product, but I can be mistaken

For this type of a watch, I'd rather go with RGM. But as a brand Longines is okay. Nothing against them.

I've looked at a few myself, as stated their heritage line seems to be getting a lot of likes from within the industry. They definatley have the history but today's Longines isn't as high end as it may have once been. The Monopusher Chrono's are pretty cool, 40mm models are too. If I were to offer anything I would suggest it's a keeper, resale will be terrible if you are likely to flip

Longtime lurker, first time poster! The Longines master moonphase was my first "fancy" watch (if I don't count my Marathon SAR). I have the 42mm model and have loved it for 3 years. But my wife just bought me an Explorer II Polar and I am divesting myself of all other watches, since the Polar never leaves my wrist. If anyone wants to give my beloved Longines a good home, or wishes to adopt a couple of lovely and very well behaved Midos, please pm me. Best wishes for a good week to all!

Just pulled the trigger on the Longines Conquest Classic 42mm L2.798.5.72.7!
http://shop.us.longines.com/watch-se...oon-phase.html Struck a deal with a brick-and-mortar authorized retailer who sold it to me for gray market price and also threw in the bracelet for the model L2.798.5.72.3 (aligator stap + rose gold buckle). http://shop.us.longines.com/l2798572...oon-phase.html I'll post pics soon. |

Beautiful watch!
Nothing but love for the Longines from my side and that Valjoux 7751 inside will tick for a long, long time (not to mention that it's easily serviceable, no matter the complications...etc.).. Big congrats!

Thanks guys; btw Orbita recommends 800 clockwise TPD. The winder I got for it does 750 CW or 900CW. Should I err on the lower or higher side?
