Post Basel Discount

I am looking at getting an Explorer II, but these are rumoured to be changing at Basel. Would it be worth waiting till after the show to possibly get a discount on what would then be "the old model" or will the AD's just run down there stock before hand so they won't have to do this?

Who says they are changing and why would Rolex discount anything?

The changes are rumours I have seen on here, as for the discount, I would just be trying my luck when I got to the AD

Why would Rolex give a discount? It will sell.

Everything on here is speculation and nothing more. Even when models are discontinued, often with sports models it raises desirability.
Either way you're unlikely to get much if anything off, but I'd still ask. EXP2 is about the easiest sports model to get/least desireable and I'd be surprised if you didn't get a token gesture or a little bit off only on EXP2. I'd aim for 5% and if you don't ask, you don't get.

If you're referring to a ceramic bezel on the EXP2, I think that is really unlikely to happen.

I wouldn't read too much into rumor and speculation.

Yes, these don't move that fast so I would hunt around until I got at least 5% off from an AD, on chrono24 you can probably get 10% off.

I agree. If a ceramic explorer 2 was released I think the non ceramic would go up in desirability. I would consider purchasing one of the last examples as I prefer the non-ceramic. The same happens with almost all rolex sports models when they are discontinued...the best most recent example is the 116520 daytona.

What I am trying to say is your ability to negotiate a discount will likely not change if a new model is released.

I wouldn't count on:

The EXP2 changing at this year's Basel.
The current model being discounted much-if any-if the above does happen

So...just go ahead and get what you want. All this speculative thinking makes my head hurt.

If anything, prices will go up. Buy it now if you want it.

I have made two purchases at an AD, both were watches that had been changed or discontinued, both post Basel. I bought the black Milgauss and the 39mm Explorer at 30% off each.

If you have the patience, wait, it might be worth it. It was worth it for me.

Just bear in mind, USA and UK are massively different markets just now for Rolex.
