Valjoux 7751?

Can anyone give their opinion on this movement? I have an opportunity to get a good deal on a watch that has this movement, though highly hand finished and decorated, placed in a chronometer.

I love the looks of the watch but want to make sure that the movement is worth it.

from what I have heard it is one of the finest movements as far as repairablility and track record.you should do well by it.I wanna see some pics!

before irt went to the Zenith.
I think that IWC is still using it
so is Sinn

Thanks Guys. I respect both of your opinions. I am always torn about spending so much money. I have to sleep on it tonight but he's giving me $1,600 off of the usual purchase price and it is a hand made watch with an exhibition back. It's beautiful. It will probably be my last watch though as my collection is as complete as I want it without winning the lottery.

I will post when I get it if that will be my morning decision.

Terry, the Valjoux 7751 is a version of the venerable 7750 which is found in many top end chronoraphs out there. The base movement is robust and reliable and has been in service for many years and is still in production today.

Brands like Hublot, Omega, Breitling, not to mention some newer brands like Kobold use the 7750/1 in their timepieces.

I'm also gravitating towards handmade watches and it's an interesting field.

That`s very reliable movement that can be found in many watches,Tudor chronograph among them.I had once watch powered by it and it served me well for about ten years(he is still perfect,but it`s no longer mine).So,what are you buying?

Surprisingly enough I am looking at an American Made watch. It is from www.rgmwatches.com. I love exhibition backs and these watches are made in a non-production type facility where they focus on quality and old world craftsmanship. Some of the custom made watches are fabulous and the limited editions are also stunning. Take a look and let me know what you think anyone. We all love Swiss and German pieces but Americans have not drawn much attention. I believe this little company could make a difference. They will definitely have some uniqueness on a plane. The person sitting next to you probably is not going to have one of these.

I did order the watch today. He is throwing in a skeletonized gold rotor on the movement and is giving me an excellent price. The dial is solid silver and hand guilloche engine turned. I think it is going to be a beautiful piece. I had a choice to have a lume dial and hands which I did not want. I love the blued steel hands. They also use blued screws in the movement done the old-fashioned way by using heat.

Congrats Terry.

RGM have also completed their first in-house movement. Do ask them about it as it's the first American developed and made movement in about 70 years. I've been tracking the development of this movement for a while. Very cool.

I have been following that movement also. My only concern is that it would not run a chronograph at present. It is a beautifully well thought out movement with design and aesthetics at the forefront of it's creation. I debated long and hard about getting a custom watch with this movement though the desires to have a true chronograph won out. I have a GMT which is nice for multiple time zones, a Submariner for water activities (I kayak), and, now a chronograph to time events and be totally different than the current watches I own. I am pleased with the craftsmanship and am excited about getting this watch. I will definitely write my first review after it arrives. Many others have written eloquent reviews of many fine watches and ones I own already. I will strive to do this watch justice with pictures and a well written review.

Actually I have my heart set on an A. Lange & Sohne 1815. They make such beautiful watches but very expensive. I am always looking for a used one as I cannot afford brand new on that model. Thanks for the positive feedback .

That would be a very unique chrono with a venerable movement made by a quality company. I think it would make a great addition to any collection. You have to post pics when you get it.

Hi guys, reviving this thread. I have a watch with this movement and the manual advises against quick-setting the date or moonphase between 19:00 and 06:00. I did it a cpl times between 19:00 and midnight before reading the manual. Did I damage anything? Watch is ticking but I did have trouble adjusting the date one day (the date dial wasn't moving); I managed to make it work after several attempts (not sure how). My watch is brand new, so I'm kinda concerned.
