IWC Portuguese HELP..!!!

Hi,

Question:

I have a 4 year old IWC Portuguese 5001/14 with a 7 day power reserve that doesn't auto wind on the wrist anymore and only winds manually by the crown so its getting a service.
I took it to IWC Bond Street and after inspection i have been quoted £76 for a new bridge (not sure why? is this for the power reserve to be fixed?) and general service cost on top (£580.00).

Can anyone confirm this sounds correct and is it needed to solve the power reserve issue and does the general service cost sound correct @ £580.00.

The cost is for the part(s) needed to fix the auto winding element – the PR is only affected insomuch as it’ll wind the mainspring as long as you’re active, otherwise you could’ve just used the crown to manually wind it.

When you get it back, give it a full wind, then leave it aside and check it lasts until the same time a week henceforth.
If all’s good, then you can start wearing it.

Is this a daily wearer or does it get rotated with other watches? If so how often on average would it be worn?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

It is a daily wear to be honest...and as my post says it isn't winding on the move but only by hand by turning the crown.. thats why its being serviced so it can be fixed.... Can you possibly confirm that the bridge would be the part needed to fix the PR issue as my original post explained and the cost of a service is £580 as no other parts have been mentioned at a cost on top of this service charge.

A complete service is 580 and recommended every 5 years while a maintenance service is 190 and recommended every two years. Since both services involve removing the movement out of the case you may be able to push for the less expensive service as its only a 4 year old watch, they may not allow that but it doesn't hurt to try. As far as what part needs to be fixed to get the self winding function correctly, i would trust IWC. Its not like you took the watch to some independent, you brought it to the manufacture. Did they already open up the watch or just tell you thats what they think the problem may be? If not, it may be more involved than the one part they quoted. Truthfully, minus the service cost portion, £76 is about as cheap a fix as you could hope for. Hope that helps.

That's great and sounds logical.. thanks for your input. It has been inspected and I've received a lengthy letter explaining their findings but as you can imagine they didn't quote the two service costs.
I'll have a think and get back to them about the general service.
