I actually like the squeak; my Submariner and Explorer no longer do it, but my Coke still does on occasion!

Soap and warm water works
Thank you for the tip everyone. I just got a brand new Submariner and noticed the squeaky bracelet. I used warm water and just normal hand soap and after 3 minutes of rinsing all the noise was gone. Great tip, thank you everyone!!!

The bracelet squeek happens alot in new watches...its normal. Its like a new car smell. I have bought over a dozen new Rolex watches in the last 9 months. It will go away the more you wear the watch. No need for lubrication, that will attract debris and cause premature wear.

Bringing an old thread up
My 2+ year old DSSD that I got second hand has a squeak that is driving me nuts. I believe it's coming from the link between the SEL and the first link at the 6 o'clock position. Any ideas for a fix? Water and soap hasn't helped, and since I didn't get this from an AD I don't know if they'd entertain a request to have a look at this. My AD relationship is based overseas. |

Old thread I know but if it bothers you just use a quick spray of silicone shaving oil like King of Shaves. wash the watch after, wipe down and wear. It won't harm your skin. After 2 weeks of swimming pool use the squeaks came back and it just needs a relube.

Almost every one I've had, has had a squeaky bracelet minus my DD 40. Probably because to the ceramic in the link hole.

Remove the band from the head, Spray the bracelet with WD-40 while laying the watch on paper towels. Wipe the band down with a micro fiber cloth until the residual 40 is gone and so will the squeak.

That will make an awful smelling mess on your wrist. Bracelet squeak is due to the tight tolerance between the links when new. Regular wearing and washing with soap and water will quiet the bracelet. In time. I would not recommend using any chemical lubricants on bracelet links. Simply not necessary and does more harm than good. And definitely not healthy for your skin.

Hello everyone
My green Milgaus was squeaking like a mouse too so I couldn't help it, (sorry I dont thing it's like a new car smell, its more like a fake watch to me_), so i did the following steps and the squeaking disappeared immediately afterwards: 1. Boil some water and put it in a plastic container, let it cool down for a few minutes. 2. Use some liquid hand soap and rub it in your bracelet by massaging it and make sure it goes in between the links from all sides, at the same time move all the links around and shake the bracelet for the soap to go inside the bracelet, keep doing this for a minute or two. The squeak will already have disappeared at this point. 3. Place the watch in the already cooled down hot water (do not be afraid, your Rolex is water proof and will not be damaged by the hot water, actually one of the old Rolex ads was about boiling a Rolex for several minutes as an experiment and the watch continued to perform perfectly_). with a plastic spoon, gently stir the watch and make sure the bracelet is being twisted around inside the water. do this for a couple of minutes. 4. Take your watch out of the water and rinse it well with running water for a minute or two. Then pat it dry with some fine paper tissue (or whatever you desire_). At this point the squeak will have disappeared. 5. Enjoy your squeak free Rolex! |

Is this thread real or an onion article? Rolexes are made to very tight tolerances. It'll go away.

Here is a video that I have made to show how to solve this issue of squeaking oyster bracelets.

Spray silicone on the links (front & back). Don't get it in the end links or clasp. Work the individual links back and forth a few times. When complete, wash well with soap & water and a soft toothbrush. It will be the silkiest bracelet you've ever felt.
That's how the watchmakers do it - just call and ask.

A dab of olive oil on the bracelet cures all squeaks.

My 3 year old YMII still squeaks at the links nearest the watch. I wear it all the time but it persists.
