SDC4K 116600 Shortage

And it begins! I was just checking the For Sale section....and it already appears there's little to no 116600's for sale, but plenty of 5 series Sea Dwellers for sale within the first 5 pages!

I'm sure we will soon see a surge of them...at slight increased pricing of course, but over the next few years I bet we see fewer and fewer available...and at substantially higher elevated prices!

Looks like the AD's I frequent in the Bay Area are either out or the orders they have in place are already spoken for.

Oh good. Thanks for this thread. I don't follow the Basel releases nor have my ear to the ground like the TRF members so pardon my naevity.

I had read here the SD4000 was going to be discontinued and blew it off as hype. Based on the stock photo in another thread I guess it's true? So only 3 years or so of production? If so damn glad I bought one in November. The AD even gave me 10% off. Love the watch too. No plans to sell or flip.

So a watch that looks like a Sub without a cyclops, will now be collectible, despite historically depreciating more than a Sub

I'll take a new one thanks

I'm thinking there will be quite a few put up for sale once the new model arrives at AD's, at least for the first several months.

Looking at WatchRecon, there look to be a couple.
http://www.watchrecon.com/?query=116600
I think people will be holding and hoping for prices to explode.

Since the new SD is so different from the SD4K, I think people are buying them up in hopes of the prices "skyrocketing". Not saying it can't happen but I don't see it happening any time soon. Once the new SD hits the market I'm sure we'll see more old ones for sale.

I never got over the protruding endlinks caused by the short lugs of the SD4K. This was a clear design flaw on Rolex's part that I'm glad they fixed on the new model.

Visited my AD today and he mentioned that everyone with a prior SD model should be happy today!

In blown up high res pics....it looks like hell! In real life and on the wrist it somehow looks great!

I've owned many 5 digit and 6 digit subs, but like many others whom have taken the time to do the wrist test... I found the dimension, look and fit to be far superior to the 116610's! As many have said it's the best modern Rolex sports watch available....or that used to be available! Hehehe!

Could say that he same thing about 16710 lug hole Swiss dials. There is no reason for the asking prices as of late....they millions of those...but find a decent example below 7,000..
