Do you buy a watch for yourself or others?
Greetings all.
Over the years having seen the numerous posts on which watch, dial or size should I get etc. Fair enough, asking about price/condition may avoid you making a mistake, however buying a watch is a very personal adventure and I'm beginning to sense some people might actually be buying watches according to how they are perceived by others. In this ever changing world, tv reality programs are the norm and vanity is at its forefront. I'm not talking about people with well thought out collections, but I'm sure if you think about it, the sort of post I'm talking about is easily spotted. Occasionally someone says "look mate, you should buy what you like", leaving me overjoyed. Watches, were, getting bigger and bigger - all down to vanity. The scenario seems to be the Essex girls are wearing 36mm gold coloured chronographs on TV, so I can't wear a 36, I've got to supplant it with a 40mm. Don't get me wrong my collection has a few 42mm watches (Speedmaster Prof. or as Archie calls it MOTFM) but I have a 34mm VC too and I certainly don't care what others think. I don't wish to offend anyone, but can we stick to all the other brilliant posts instead of what should I get? Perhaps a dedicated section to cater for what should I get might be in order? |

I only buy so my TRF brothers can enjoy the watch, I get nothing, I'm a saint like that.

You brought up a good point. Rolex handholding/reassurance threads seem to be growing in number. It's kind of like fashionistas selecting and buying designer stilettos.

Archie was just mentioned in passing. Anyway I think he's hilarious. The constant swearing, licking the whisky bottle etc & more knowledgeable than you and I combined.
The watch world is multifaceted and All are welcome. Anyway, I know you're joking, as am I. |
