Anyone know Cartier? Rare watch?

I was dining with a friend and, since I have a newfound interest in watches (thanks to this forum), I asked to have a look at his watch.

He told me it was a rare Cartier that he inherited, but didn't know much else about it.

Can anyone help me identify it for him?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

I'll tell you one thing- it's pretty damned rare for having an "IV" for
4 instead of "IIII" (which I thought Cartier invented 200 years ago), which I actually think is neat.

That's a Cintrée, one of the most beautiful watches ever made IMO.

Thank you all for the info. I did a bit of extra research based on your posts.

It seems the Cintrée is a historic Cartier model that has been through a few incarnations, and that this may be an early one because of the IV numeral on the face, which was changed a long time ago -- though I guess 200 years is an exaggeration ;-)

Capote, can you elaborate on your comment? Do you think the watch face has been changed (redialed)? Does that make the watch a counterfeit, or simply serviced?

I have no stake in this; the watch isn't mine; just trying to learn.
