DSSD or a Ceramic??? Thoughts

My current collection includes the odd Rolex amongst others but older T<25 dialled 14060, Polar 16570 and Pepsi 16710 oh and a lovely original feet first 5513.

Recently I have been hankering for a newer ceramic SD or GMT and had eventually decided on a SD4000 but the prices have just gone mad, likewise with the BLNR. However, completely out of blue I am warming more and more to a DSSD, why, god only knows as up until a week ago I never considered one an option.

So, is this just a flash, will I regret sourcing and buying one or should I just hold out until the SD hype settles down. ??

Difficult one, how many of you have found the DSSD just too big?? Just to add a have a 1950's cased PAM and I loved my 45.5mm PO before I sold it.

Thoughts??

Wes

I love my DSSD, it gets the vast majority of my wrist time. Fits really well (with the divers extension removed) and I find the weight and thickness to be just fine.

Also, worth considering waiting a little to see what you think of the new SD. It's seems bigger like the DSSD, but not quite as large as that one. You do have the large PAM as well. Plus the new 3235 calibre may be attractive technology for you to compliment the less recent references and have a mix of past and present?

I love my DSSD. Something about that thick crystal and how it glimmers in the light just can't be beat! Plus it's super comfortable once you fit it to your wrist.

the dssd standard is a great buy (now) and a good size but the height is the only issue you may want to research. its a great short sleeve watch but i think the SD-c is a better balance; at realistic pricing.

Many thanks for your speedy replies chaps and thanks traf That shot really helps......it is gorgeous.

For what I feel comfortable parting with (£6k ish) the new SD will be way over budget, I really do not want to flip any of my present collection to fund, it is a perfect balance for me at the mo.

Other than the bracelet anyone wearing one on a rubber or nato, how does it feel.

Dssd is a lovely wearing watch once sized correctly. Take off the divers extension. If you are used to a pam 1950's case and the omega it will feel no bigger. I have the rubber b for it but tend to keep it on the oyster bracelet. I just finding switching bracelets a hassle maybe if i get the bergeon 7825 tool it might be easier for me to do.

It's just under 7" but really flat, so I tend to be able to pull off larger watches than the size would suggest. I'm also 6'3" which helps diminish the overall size

So with the SD43 on its way do we think it will see the end of the DSSD, will it be dropped??

I feel second to the ExpII the DSSD is the next least favoured in the SS line up, maybe if dropped it will have the effect as we are seeing on the not over liked SD4000 which did have a lot of critics.

You have to try it on, it is quite polarising, either at an ADs or a Watchfinder or dealer near you.

Superb watch and always been a grail for me, I managed to pick up a Dblue recently and am not disappointed. If you are considering a regular black dial they are readily available in the U.K. so I this is one SS model I would be pushing for a discount or even a pre loved. If your thinking Dblue stick with the AD be patient and pay RRP.
Good luck and if you do decide to add one I'm sure you won't regret it.

My DSSD is getting way more wrist time than my YG Sub.

The watch is very comfortable.

As others have said, the DSSD is surprisingly comfortable with the diver's extension link removed.

It is better worn with short sleeves but I've worn mine with double-cuffed shirts. If you're used to a 1950 Luminor (I have a couple), then the DSSD will be no problem at all.

I love my DS but it's not a daily wearer IMO. It's not a small watch and top heavy. You should try it before you pull the trigger.

I would wait and see what the SD43 is all about before you pay a premium for the last generation of SD4000. The hype is just that. A way to move watches and get excitement into a watch that was discontinued for poor sales in a market dominated by the Submariner. I am a fan of the SD but most people are not WIS and when the SD and the Sub are put beside each other most will choose the Sub. I think as soon as the SD43 hit we will see the lists and hype but it will calm down quick when buyers have to go to the AD and pay $11,800 with no discounts. The secondary market on the SD4000 will also slow down and the prices will correct to true value. Less than it is now.

That right there is all you need OP

If blue is your next move there's nothing quite like it I wasn't a fan until I saw one in real life at my AD, I bought it without hesitation

Funds will not allow a blue without moving something on which I do not want to do.

I am sure a black will be fine, they seem loved.

Ta chaps

The black DSSD was the choice for me for a couple of reasons.......it's classic, the JC versions 3 colored dial makes the watch look like a toy (my opinion), and the price differential for that isn't worth it, even if I liked the dial. Rolex marketing is pretty smart, they are like Porsche, your watch needs a dial, so they charge you a fist full for one to see if you'll bite, just because it is different, and costs them the same.

I don't like to buy hype (or pay retail) .......another reason I took my name off the SD43 list and bought my DSSD.

When you find an AD with a DSSD in stock, try it on first and wear it for 5 minutes, then try on 4-5 other Rolexes from their case right away. You'll either love or hate it after this process.
