From that first set of pictures it looks like Rolex is now using the same blue for the batons and romans. I had the same dilemma when ordering my DJII, but the blue face on the romans was a darker shade than the blue they used for the batons. I wound up with the baton model, but I really think both look great if they use the same blue. I would have trouble picking but I'm sure you are going to be very happy with the sticks

Romans for sure. Something about it that is different from the rest. Sticks/Batons/Numbers/Arabic have their own way around certain models.

So essentially, this is my first Rolex and as such this would be a watch that I would hopefully have for the long term! It would be my daily wearer ( I work in a suit everyday) but also would like to wear with jeans and casual clothes too. I'm not too bothered about lume really!

Have attached some pictures and I've been in the shops and tried them both on but I can't decide!

Also if I get the Romans then I can it for £4900, whereas sticks would be for £5900!

Thanks in advance!
Entirely a matter of taste. Personally, I prefer the simplicity of the batons. For some reason, the look of Roman numerals doesn't appeal to me if the watch is for me. On a Datejust for a woman, though, I rather like the Roman Numerals, particularly on the 34mm or 31mm. Not sure why. Perhaps the minimalist look of the batons seems too masculine to my eye.

I'm not saying Roman numerals are effeminate, just that they give a little flair to the look of the dial that I think works especially well for a woman.

We Yanks don't use the word baton much...and when we do, we pronounce it "Ba-taan". In recent years, Police refer to their truncheons as "batons". That seemed to catch on when side handled batons became popular in the 1980s, which were metal and black in color, replacing the older batons made of hickory and referred to as "nightsticks". Aside from cops, the word is associated here mostly with something twirled in a marching band. Parade stuff. So, it's not a word used everyday on our side of the Atlantic.

Stick, however, is everyday usage for any number of meanings...from a manual gear shift, to, well, a nightstick. So, I'm not surprised it's been adopted in the watch context.

I'd never heard the term "stick" for the markers on a watch until this forum. I agree with you: It sounds wrong to my ears. I prefer "Baton" (and after spending some time with the chaps at the Met, prefer the British pronunciation, too).

Two peoples, separated by a common language!

Cheers, mate.

Well done. Blue?

Just bought a 36mm OP with blue dial and the so-called "3-6-9" dial.

The blue is a great color.

I would prefer a touch of Roman bling instead as opposed to the diamond markers. It's the least feminine in such offerings, although I have never really looked at it that way from your comments.

I have a TT Date just 36 sliver dial with the batons, I love it! The Roman numerals made me feel like it was more of a dress watch for special occasion. I wear this bad boy all the time so I felt the batons made it a little less formal (being more universal for any occasion). The batons could be warn with anything from a swim suit to a tux. I also like how the batons are slightly elevated on the dial. Just looks more in depth in the dial and always nice to have a little lume when your in a dark place.

It's fair take on what you really feel right when wearing a Rolex.
I feel that wearing a Rolex should have no boundaries as to what/who/why..as if to conform. Batons/Romans/Arabic etc.
I wore my Rolex with a pair of old faded Levi's and a white cotton V-neck Hane's t-shirt and a pair of Jack Purcell Converse.

Man..the whole outfit felt cheap and relaxed only to know I have a Rolex to rock it out ROYALY and it works for me.

It's just not for tux and suits anymore!:
Rolex.................No Boundaries!!!:

Where is Spartacus when you needed him?

I've looked at high and low for other model offerings and wanted a subtle not too gaudy/blingy type of appeal and I have settled.
