Breitling Chrono-Matic Ref. 2110 Caliber 12

By now, most vintage watch collectors are familiar with the great race of 1969 to release the world's first automatic chronograph movement. Heuer, Zenith, and Seiko will all tell you that they beat the others to market. Those first automatic chronographs have become legends in their own right, and Heuer, Buren, Breitling, and others were more than happy to put that movement in as many watches as they could. The Autavias, Hamiltons, and other chrono-matic watches have all rocketed in popularity (and price) the past few years, but the Breitling chrono-matics remain one of the more under the radar values in the vintage watch world.

Along with that blitz to get the new movement to market, Breiting put out a vast number of watches in configurations strikingly similar to each other in a short period of time, one of which being the reference 2110 like you see here. Many of the white dialed 2110s featured bright orange contrasting hands, but this example has a black set that match the signature "Panda" subdials with a red central seconds hand matching the indicators in the minute register. We think this color combo is exceptionally clean and gives the watch great balance.

Take a look at the photos and our condition description below:

Case: Stainless steel case in outstanding condition, as pictured. The case is extremely sharp with crisp edges and is unpolished, with only very light surface swirls on the polished surfaces. Crown is original signed Breitling, pushers also appear original.

Bezel: Original bidirectional rotating bezel. The bezel insert is in excellent condition with no scratching, marking, or missing paint. The black bezel surround has a couple spots of minor wear on the edges as pictured but is in excellent condition.

Dial/Hands: Dial is original tritium panda dial in flawless condition with tritium hour/minute hands. Hands are believed to be original to the watch despite being an uncommon configuration for this reference.

Caseback: Original caseback marked ref. 2110 with a 1.33 million serial number. The caseback has sharp engravings and appears unpolished like the case. There are a number of scratches on the caseback likely from someone trying to open the watch without the proper tool (aka idiot marks).

Crystal: Original beveled acrylic crystal in excellent condition free from any major scratching, hazing, or marks.

Movement: Caliber 12 automatic chronograph movement. The movement is in excellent working condition with all functions working exactly as they should including winding, time setting, date advance, and chronograph start, stop, and reset to zero. The chrono runner bridge has been replaced with one marked Heuer, most likely due to a service and parts availability at the time seeing as watches with identical movements were signed by both brands. Service history is unknown.

Bracelet/Strap: New black rally style strap.

Accessories: None, sold as watch only.

Price is $2750 shipped CONUS via PayPal or wire (3% discount for wire). US sale preferred, international sales will pay the cost of shipping. Face to face in the Boston area also welcome. I have many references available. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking!
