A Tin Can
So it arrived.
May be the wrong package but still interesting. I don't think the Sterling silver body Hastil were issued that first year like the packaging but it still works together. Sliding up the cover on the left side reveals the warranty, two cartridges and the Trik-Trak aerometric converter. In all a nice addition and yet another wonderful Hastil. |

Just when I think I have you somewhat delineated you come up with something I have never heard of.
I need to step out of my small sighted world of writing instruments and into the world of Jim Richardson! How does it write?

Hastils write wonderfully. They have the very slight Aurora tooth but are moderately wet and very controllable with positive feedback.
The Hastil was the first of the 70s slim pens, the one that started the trend. Montblanc asked Aurora to make one for them based on the Hastil and it was marketed as the VIP. Montblanc then went on to build the SlimLine and Noblesse as the next iterations. Waterman, Parker, even Sheaffer followed with their own versions. I'll try to get some pictures of a few others as well as a writing sample over the next few days. |

Here is one in Vermeil.
Notice that even though the body appears the same diameter top to bottom it actually tapers. The two black projections at the bottom of the pen are actually defining the diameter at the top of the body. They fit inside the cap so that when posted it actually never touches the body itself. That allows posting without ever developing the dread cap rings. The nib is ultra simple with the only markings being a discrete 14K stamp on the left side. I also have Hastils in lacquer and one that was made only one year and finished in Japan in urushi. |
